While still a definitive staple for me, I have actually managed to recreate this dish. And so can you! All one needs is conviction, self-belief and 2 packets of Prima laksa paste. Slightly pricey for what it is. Props for fat juicy prawns, but again, believe in yourself!

There is really no need to wax lyrical about the beef rendang at Violet Oon’s. It is categorically the best rendang in Singapore. While heavy is the head that wears the crown, VO has never once wavered in its quality in the countless times i have had this dish.

Violet Oon Singapore has got you covered with the launch of their Shepherd’s Pie Trays and Nyonya Bento Boxes, both part of the restaurant’s growing list of delivery and takeaway options. The former, which comes in two sizes of both chicken and beef option (Large 20cm x 20cm $62, Small 11cm x 14cm $58 for a set of 3), is a take on the classic English dish that is freshly baked daily which you can consume immediately or keep in the refrigerator and reheat it at your convenience. As for the Nyonya Bento Boxes (range from $23 to $28), there are a total of nine options and each set comes with white rice and tahu goreng with some of Violet Oon’s classic dishes such as babi pong tay, chicken curry, beef rendang, ikan goreng chilli, meatless meatball rendang, chap chye and sayur lodeh. For these two meal options, here are the deals that you can enjoy

Similar texture to the sugee cake, q fragrant but not very impactful. The almonds on top were a really nice touch, but I almost prefer sinpopo's as it was a lot stronger, if too sweet. Rather safe, if a little too safe(as we all should be rn)

It's good, but not extraordinary in any way. Put it like this, if it were cut in half and served on a white plastic plate for 3bucks, I would be very happy but I wouldn't question it. A tad dry.
