The most valuable order. Not only it is cheap, it also consists of 8 big, fat and meaty piece of dumplings in oily, vinegary and spicy sauce. Shiok ah! The skin of each dumpling was smooth and the meat in it was marinated wonderfully. Must remember to get this ah.
Hands down one of the best la mian I had. Succulent sliced beef paired with chewy, slurpy, springy QQ noodles in a big bowl of clear awesome savoury soup. Garnished with loads of spring onion and I added a scoop of chilli flake oil to enhance even more. Each mouthful is so full of taste. Oh my gawd!!โจ
Having lived in Bishan for 30 years, I can say that it is a gastronomical desert. Yes, there are a couple of famous stalls (e.g. Ming Kee) but you will rarely hear people saying "I went to Bishan yesterday to check out the XXX".
Things have been changing a little lately (see the revamped Kim San Leng kopitiam). Today's post is about @shixiangge, a Chinese la mian stall which opened in 2018 and quickly attracted hordes of diners.
Chef-owner Liu was the La Mian director for Crystal Jade and his noodles are naturally the signature dish of Shi Xiang Ge. I had their mala beef noodles and loved his ๅๅ้ข (dao xiao mian or knife shaved noodles) which are springy with a nice bite. The broth is apparently beef broth but I couldn't taste it because even the ๅฐ่พฃ was a little too spicy for my weak tummy. I did however love their fat and juicy fatty intestines which are really tasty and as good as any of thr kway chap stalls you can think of.
I also had their sichuan spicy wonton in red oil which is as good as those you can find in the branded chain restaurants. The rou jia mou (or Chinese hamburger) was rather disappointing as it was a little too greasy for my liking.
Opened by former Crystal Jade Chef a few years back, Shi Xiang Ge is a not-so-hidden hawker gem that specialises in Shanxi cuisine, selling authentic handmade la mian & dumplings. Famous amongst Bishan dwellers, do expect perpetual long queues during lunch and dinner times.๐ฌ

Not my first time here and definitely not the last! Even though a bowl of la mian is gona fill you up to the brim, you wonโt regret ordering their spicy Sze Chuan pork dumplings to share. Thatโs where the extra โญ๏ธ is fromโฆ๐

A hidden gem opened by an ex-Crystal-Jade chef โ expect comfort food with the heartiest flavours at this stall tucked away atop Bishan Bus Interchange. Oh, and expect super affordable prices too.
You can't pass on their Delicate and silky parcels engorged with flavoursome meaty goodness, then bathed in a crimson pool of vinegar-laden sauce that delivers a satisfying spice kick without being overpowering.
It's simple but soul stirring with its efficacious medley of flavours โ a choice you won't regret at its price point, comparable to offerings at iconic institutions such as DTF. Sometimes, it's the stripped-down indulgences that really hit the spot the hardest.

Mala intestines noodles @ $7
Another awesome dish at this stall. The spiciness is good though it can be just a tad more. The noodles are well cooked and of the texture that we like. The intestines are so huge and also very well cooked with the right texture.
Definitely will be back to try the other noodles again!
