From the Burpple community

Mixed off cuts which were a highlight at aburiya. Here it's alright but not impressive either. Instead let's continue to talk about their other problems

The rice sucks. At 3++ a bowl for japanese rice you expect a certain quality, but just as how the rice needs to be spectacular for you to immediately notice, this rice was so bad everyone noticed from the very first bite. Not sure if the rice itself is bad but this seemed undercooked. Really affected the experience tremendously when you're eating it with wagyu piece after piece

Mistake in naming: their menu item Jo karubi is simply wrong. Karubi is short rib, but they called their brisket steak Jo karubi steak. Brisket is burisuke or koune, and with this mistake I clarified why Jo karubi steak and Jo karubi are at different price. The staff said thats a different cuts(when the menu said in English explicitly Jo karubi steak), as if I was the one who should have read more carefully. What a joke

The wagyu honestly isn't the best. The marbling should tell you everything, but it was as average as you expect. Moreover the price they charge places them at a respectable restaurant's level, and you would expect their meats are of a high standard, maybe not top.

Anyway if you bother to come here just know the ala carte single cuts are 80g each, moriawase is 40g a cut.

Oh their raw egg is good. Can tell it's a decent quality. That's the only thing we were particularly happy with here

This place is much worse than the parent aburiya. Aburiya was a pleasure but this place was subpar. No wonder there's no crowd or no hype.

Problems:
There's no mention of grammage for most of the items.
Service is lacking, Staff isn't very friendly nor were they willing to refill charcoal when it wasn't as hot anymore. They literally told me to put my hand near the charcoal if I didn't believe its still hot. Ridiculous. When it was clear that the charcoal isn't even red anymore(guess that's what they mean by wagyu EXPRESS, you have to cook before the charcoal loses its heat lol)
Quality of wagyu isn't high

Yeah it's oily but it's quite clear the beef isn't top notch.

Review for food:
Can u guess which is the karubi here? No, it's not the tiny sliced ones. It's actually the bars of harami looking beef that's karubi. Unbelievable. Is that the least marbled wagyu karubi I've ever seen? The texture is not good too, it's almost exactly as difficult to cook as harami, otherwise coming out chewy or hard.

The cylindrical discs are rib fingers and they were pretty decent. Brisket is not the best cut so the thinly sliced brisket didn't impress either.

It's a wonder why they haven't closed

Had Wagyu Akami Mori, Wagyu Kiritoku, Wagyu Jo Karubi Steak G Butter, Wagyu Sukiyaki, Wagyu Jo Karubi and Buta Sirloin. My favourite is the Akami Mori, Sukiyaki, Jo Karubi and Buta Sirloin. Sukiyaki comes with onsen egg for dipping and it’s really gooddddd. The fried rice and kimchi and carrot salad are good to ! Will be back soon !

We like our beef to be slightly less grilled so we can still achieve the medium texture. Worth checking out if you are in Tanjong Pagar!

We have had 4 selections of A4 wagyu cuts and we absolutely fall in love with the prime short rib that had even marbling of fats. 30 seconds of cooking on each side was enough to let the juices flow with every bite. If you’re on a budget, you could opt for A4 wagyu sukiyaki that was also very juicy. It’s best dipped in the sukiyaki and lava egg sauce for the silky bliss in the mouth. ~
Thanks Ting Feng for hosting and @lkzx for inviting!

We are usually used to having sukiyaki in a hotpot, so this Wagyu Sukiyaki from the one month old @WagyuExpress.SG is quite different in the sense the Hokkaido Wagyu Beef is first lightly grilled, before we dipped it into the usual egg sauce. Love the flavourful and tender beef slices here, at fairly reasonable prices in a fuss-free dining setting.

The restaurant is managed by the same team behind Aburiya and is located along the buzzing Tanjong Pagar Road.
