Reviews of good food at Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant (Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel)

basically high class charsiew HAHAHA it was so fatty honestly it melted in our mouths (in a good way) and the honey glaze was thick and sticky, engulfing each and every piece. it was really good, but i must say it was slightly too sweet for me and i started to get jelat of it towards the end

peking duck is one of my all time favs and this was no exception — the skin was fatty yet well glazed w flavour and crisp it went amazing w the thin, soft crepe and fresh crunchy julienne vegs!! JK and i shared this so we had 5 each, i nvr felt so happy and satisfied ☺️ the remaining duck meat was used to cook the fried rice (u can choose noodles as well) which was super tasty packed generously w other ingredients too! 10/10 recommend omg

For sweet rice dumpling, try their Coconut, Brown Sugar, Red Bean & Chestnut which comes with Palm Sugar Sauce ($12). For a healthier option, the Black Truffle 5-grain Vegetarian ($14) sure will appeal. Not forgetting my favourite rice dumpling of all time, Signature Pork & Salted Egg ($16) featured at the back. All wrapped in their signature soft glutinous rice which i really love! The last thing you want is grainy rice which is a turnoff! I was surprised by how soft the glutinous rice is which shows how well it has been cooked through and they are fragrant yet not too salty.
.
A set of 4 handcrafted rice dumpling comes with a beautiful premium gold box which glams up the presentation and enjoy 20% from now till 18June! Pre-order at least 3 days in advance! The elderly sure will love these!

Premium black truffle with Wan Hao Chinese Restaurant’s popular 5-grain delight. Packed with fibre-rich grains such as black glutinous rice, glutinous rice, grain rice, as well as a variety of savoury ingredients such as turnip, carrot, king oyster mushroom, black fungus, vegetarian bak kwah and braised peanuts.

Back at home, I’d eat all my durians frozen; in my mind, no other forms of durian could trump its au naturale creamy yet icy gelato-like texture... until I had this. With just one bite, Wan Hao’s deep fried crispy durian shattered all my beliefs. Served within a light crisp layer of tempura batter, the aromatic durian pulp is piping hot - upon cracking open the outer shell, the molten fibrous mass literally oozes out! And when it hits your tongue....oh heavens. It’s just a warm, melty sensation that overwhelms all your senses.😍 A plate of 4 Pieces is simply not enough!!! Order this at your own risk, don’t say I didn’t warn ya about wanting more!!!

With this being the only dim sum item marked with the “chef’s recommendation” logo, I knew we definitely had to try this! Despite the tiny dollop of truffle paste, the aroma of truffle saturated our senses the moment this dish arrived. Wrapped in a thin har gao skin, the savoury shrimp filling was allowed to take centre stage. Though I couldn’t really discern the different ingredients - which I guess points to a well-chosen selection of congruous flavors - the juicy and harmonious taste really took my breath away. Hands down the best har gao I’ve ever tasted!

Gotta show their dim sum menu some loving! This is a beautifully stacked creation, starting with 1) Yam base packed with a savoury filling of scallops & mushrooms, 2) a whole scallop and finally 3) well-balanced succulent abalone that comes slathered in starchy sauce. The three components meshed well to synthesize a thick, briny flavour; almost like a bite-sized version of seafood stir-fry. I was also very impressed by the flaky puff-like skin which crackled and easily melted in my mouth. Glad to have listened to my gut and ordered this despite the price! 😂

The server was kind enough to cut the pieces open, revealing the goodness hiding beneath the crisp tempura exterior. Hot mushy mango was incredibly sweet, balancing out the saltiness of the prawn piece (yes, it came fish-cake style if I’m not wrong. Still, it had a distinct taste of fresh prawn!). Insides were juicy and provided a warm flavor which gently permeated our senses 🤤

Iberico pork and truffle with praw. Fancy ingredients, tastes.... Zir char
Service, if i did look real old, perhaps would be better

We asked for the meat to be chopped as we like to taste it rather than have it hidden under sauce or noodle. $48 for half duck.

The food is good, although not as memorable or innovative as the best Cantonese in town (eg. HuaTing, various Imperial Treasures, Lei Garden, etc). Staff are polite but overworked, so service can be horrifically slow. 10’ wait for our table (explainable as later we saw how long they took to clear tables). Over 30’ wait for our food (including a frustrating 10’ seeing our dishes laid on service cupboard before being picked up by staff). 10’ for tapao. But they are quick to take payment: the bill was settled within 5’ after being asked, including processing the Entertainer discount! Prices are as high as the best. In fact, without the Entertainer discount, I would not go back.

We could detect the all-too-familiar scent of durian even before popping these gorgeous delights into our mouths! Albeit not in a bad way; the cloying aroma merely lingered about each piece and wasn’t overwhelming in the least. In fact, it’s interesting how covertly Wan Hao has dressed this dessert, unlike other blatantly bombastic durian treats that scream “EAT ME, I’M MADE OF DURIAN!!!” whether in terms of appearance, smell or taste.

Upon biting through the crisp batter, one can immediately taste and feel the authenticity of the durian used. The hot flesh is sweet, creamy, and most importantly, fibrous which attests to the presence of real durian pulp. I really savoured every bite & nibble, though in my honest opinion, each piece could’ve done with more durian! But that’s just my greed speaking 😂

Deep-fried with a thin batter and coated with a delectable orange glaze, Wan Hao’s Pork Ribs with Mandarin Orange Sauce may set you quite bit at $36/small. However, the fat to meat ratio of each chunk alongside the delightfully refreshing glaze (much like a glistening layer of sticky, tangy caramel) makes it a dish worth getting your fingers dirty for. Succulent on the inside and crips on the outside, the ribs also worked wonderously with the sweetness and zest of the fresh mandarin oranges which provided some acidity and accentuated the natural flavor of the meat.
