Yes this place is famous for its wanton noodles, but they make a mean, solid carrot cake that is to die for. $5.70 is indeed pricey, but you get a sizeable portion of eggy, crispy, and perfectly balanced white. add of cake. Carrot cake itself has nice bite to it, but also a wonderful wok hei flavour. With that slight umami taste from the preserved radish and the fragrant, spicy, chilli, this dish from Wanton Noodle House is truly my guilty pleasure.

My only gripe was the service - I'd arrived at 8:40PM & was talking to the 2 others with me, asking them for their orders… The lady with glasses standing at the cash register barked at me telling me that they close at 9, insinuating that I need to hurry TF up. Very grumpy & curt, to the extent that I was quite taken aback.

It's not a matter of what you say (I obviously understand that I shouldn't take 21 minutes to order), but how you say it.

Regardless, I'd come back again... Just not expect any warm or polite kind of service, I suppose.

Wanton Noodle House is listed as closed on Tuesdays, but by some stroke of luck - they were open when I swung by. My colleague, against all logic, encouraged me to "try (my) luck" - turns out that they are only closed every alternate Tuesdays.

I'd seen this on a Hungrygowhere Instagram reel, & it looked fairly promising. Since it was nearby, I gave it a shot.

Despite its namesake, I ended up ordering Shrimp Dumpling Noodles 水饺面 ($5.70 nett), as I much prefer dumplings to wantons (+ am also not a fan of charsiew). These dumplings were meaty & delicious; most importantly, the meat wasn’t smelly. The sauce was good too, coating the al dente mee kia nicely.

I also enjoyed how the soup is pretty tasty - with some kind of umami that is welcomed, & not a bowl of MSG water that many places serve. If you order the soup-noodles version, or just the dumpling soup without noodles, it'd certainly be an above average dish.

The noodles were sparingly and doused in enough sauce, however it gets a little oily towards the end for the chicken feet noodles. The chicken feet are braised till all the tendons are falling offf the bone. The shrimp dumplings are succulent.

(Shrimp dumpling noodles - S$5)
(Braised chicken feet noodles - S$5)

Ngor Hiang $5, Fried Tofu $1.50 each. These freshly deep fried Ngor Hiang were so delicious! That crispy skin filled with tender juicy meat and chestnuts is so irresistible! We can’t stop popping it into our mouth one after the other. A simple fried tofu taste so shiok too!! It brings out more flavours when dipped in chilli sauce and peanuts!! Loves these side dishes! .
