Have they raised the prices? Yes
Is it better than before? It’s the same
Does it still work? Hell yeah

Take the chicken cutlet, ask for their signature garlic sauce, whack two eggs on top for ~$8. I’ll suggest you order some liang teh from the stall a few doors down to balance this sinful but oh so reliable combination.

We have been on the hunt for nostalgic taste recently, from old school bakeries to western hawker stalls. So pleased with our recent find at Old Airport Road Hawker Centre’s Western Barbeque.

In this hearty plate of mixed grill, there’s a piece of lamb chop, pork chop and chicken chop each, with coleslaw, sunny side up, crinkle cut fries and a buttered bun on the side. The succulent chicken thigh was the winner, grilled till slightly charred, while the pork chop was a little too tough to chew and the lamb chop was a little gamey though tender. Their signature garlic sauce was really memorable, as the pungency of chopped garlic added a dimension to the originally sweet, tangy sauce. Unlike other western stalls, Western Barbecue serves an old-fashioned butter bread supplied by Victoria Bakery & Confectionery. Its fluffiness reminds me of a similar colourful cream bread that I grew up eating.

Really love the chicken chop here as chicken thigh is used here and the meat is juicy, succulent and tender. The exterior of the chicken is charred and Smokey and added an extra dimension to the chicken chop ◡̈

What's better than having Western Barbeque Filled With Nostalgic Flavours!❤️.

Accredited by Numerous Media Features and Awards, I guess Western Barbeque #01-53 at Old Airport Road is a Must Try!.

And Since we're here, How Can we not grab a Coffee From Toast Hut (#01-52) Right?🍽

There were quite a number of orders ahead of me. A few people were standing around, probably to takeaway their food.

Western BBQ uses a wireless paging system. So, after ordering my food, I just had to wait at my own table in comfort.

Waited for about 40minutes before I went to collect my chicken chop. If you request, the stall will gladly add their special garlic sauce - which is meant for their pork chop- to your chicken chop. No extra charge.

Unfortunately, by the time I collected my food at 8:40pm, my favourite (old-school) butter bun was out of stock. I love their old-fashioned butter bun because it was something I always had when I was young, thus it never fails to ignite a sense of nostalgia in me. Was sorely disappointed.

Their signature sauce packs a wallop! It is garlicy, savoury, yet somewhat sweet. If you don't like the 'spiceness' of garlic or tasting sweetness in your savoury food, then this is not for you.

The serving size of their chicken chop set (with two sides- fries & coleslaw) is quite substantial for an Asian lady with an average appetite. After all, they use a whole chicken leg for their chicken chop.

I enjoyed my dinner; the chicken was perfectly cooked; the fries and the coleslaw were good too; but I felt like I surfeited on (highly-flavoured) food. Part of the reason I was surfeited could be because of the sweetness of the sauce.

I couldn't finish my fries though if I had the butter bun, I would have saved it for breakfast the following day.

At $6, the chicken chop is very good value for money for a good dinner.

Saw quite a number of people eating this while waiting for a table and decided to give this a try. Walked round the hawker and I can’t seem to locate where this came from so I did the unusual thing of asking people where they did get this from 😅

Tasted pretty ordinary and I feel that it’s not worth the long wait. Opt not to have coleslaw and got a sunny side up as a replacement. I’ll probably give this another try with their garlic sauce on a off peak hour 》$6
