Whisk is a michelin recommended restaurant located in the tsim sha tsui district in hong kong. personally, i think that Hong Kong has one of the best deals that you can get for trying out Michelin starred/recommended cuisine because they are amazingly budget friendly, especially for their lunch sets. During my visit to whisk, i ordered this smoked salmon for my starter, part of a 4-course meal that included a glass of house pour wine, which came up to cost around $60-$70 (singapore pricing). As far as my own experience is concerned, i have always found that smoked salmon has never been able to taste both fresh and smoked at the same time. That opinion changed after i tried this at Whisk. The salmon had that smoky taste that one would expect from a piece of smoked salmon but what surprised me was the freshness and quality of salmon used for this dish and that quality was somehow preserved during the preparation of the dish. Furthermore, the addition of cucumber purée and a few slices of daikon and horseradish perfectly complemented the taste of the smoked salmon as well. What you get in your mouth is a combination of several delightful flavours that go excellently with each other. Aside from the quality of food, the presentation and dining experience plays a huge part in influencing my decision whether or not to return to a place. The presentation of this dish gave me a sense of calmness and zen, a much needed reprieve from the hustle and bustle of the Hong Kong city life. I would love to talk about how the cucumber purée resembles matcha but I might digress a little too far so I shall leave that out this time. For the first course of a 4-course set lunch, this was certainly a promising start to the remaining courses that were to come. So, if you are dining at Whisk, this would rank as my top recommendation for a starter.
