It was about 20 years back since we last had the Penang hawker's fare . So revisiting this place with my family brings back so many good memories and we spent much time reminiscing our growing up years. This buffet started off literally like a Marathon kick off . There were Long queues forming at almost every station at the start of the buffet and each person was limited to 2 portions per time. Give that the portions were small, one had to queue up over and over again ( for yourself and your family ). Other than the prawn Mee soup and the Assam laksa which were good, the rest were not worthy to be mentioned. The Penang char Kway Teow was too charred and dry and lacked flavour. I would go for the Penang char Kway Teow at Jason's Penang food at abc brickworks market (abc market) anytime or for convenience, the Penang char Kway Teow at the food court of C.K Tang's basement. At SGD 33, the buffet didn't quite deliver value. The long queues and the average food and the meagre portions didn't not justify the price of the buffet. The hotel staff were however efficient in clearing the tables and were friendly. The best part of the dinner was recounting the old days and about how Long the Penang Hawkers' fare has been ongoing. It was a nice sight to see many families reuniting and recounting good memories.
Celebrating the 30th Anniversary at White Rose Cafe from 2 to 18 Sep. Weekdays (💵S$29) Weekends (💵S$33)
There are a number of Stand Out dishes that I like: Penang Assam Laksa, Char Kway Teow, Oyster Omelette (Featured Here), Ban Chang Kueh & Chendol. 🍧
Fret not, there's more dishes like: Penang Prawn Mee, Nasi Lemak with Nonya Chicken Kapitan, Penang Rojak, Cuttlefish Kang Kong, Lok Bak, Kway Teow Soup/Dry, Ice Kachang, & Babi Roti - A Peranakan dish with Fried Bread stuffed with Minced Pork. 😋
ACAMASTIPS💮: Do come early (it is popular with locals), as the York Hotel doesn't take Reservation, Walk ins only. All the Hawkers are from Penang & are here only for a short period of time. Well there's also a Lucky Draw?? You're welcome 🖖🏻
First day of the famous Penang buffet at York Hotel! Besides the usual favourites, they have just brought in a new dish – Roti Babi! Minced pork, mushrooms and vegs stuffed into a sandwich and then deep fried! 🙊
Shiok but suffering from food coma now... 😛
What do you mean, I have to wait till September to eat this again?! ☹️ Penang Hawker Fare ought to be a 365 days a year affair.
Baan Chang Kueh - super crispy golden brown pancakes with a spoonful of margarine, ground peanuts and sugar.

Whilst the ice kacang did the best it could under the circumstances, the chendol was triumphantly refreshing, with the jelly noodles being glidingly soft and the gula melaka tinglingly sweet.

Glad to be back w the family. The Penang hawkers fare is ending this weekend, the next one is September!
Last weekend to try the penang streetfood here. The next instalments of penang street food here will only be happening in September and December. And this is my all time favourite. Tastes good even when eaten cold but tastes hella better when eaten hot! The crust is so thin!
Ps. There is only one flavour here - peanut.
4 munchies: Prawn heads, shells, pork ribs and bones, and chilli paste were used to create the mildly spicy, robust stock – served with yellow noodle, sliced pork loin, kang kong, beansprouts, and fried shallots.
Available till this Sunday, the truly authentic Penang prawn mee is another top pick of mine from York Hotel's Penang Hawkers' Fare at White Rose Café!
Thin pancakes with crisp edges and chewy interior, enveloping a spoonful of margarine, ground peanuts and sugar. This is heaven 😍
Three more days before the Penang fare ends, don't miss it because the next one would be 6 months later! More details on the web.

This brought me back to school days when we would just make a beeline at the school canteen for the fresh ones produced. This is better as the skin remains crispy even when it cooled down.
This is available at the Penang Hawkers' Fare buffet that will be available from til 27th March 2016 for just $29++ on the weekdays and $33 on the weekends. Walk-in only. Don't miss it!
5 munchies: Paper-thin batter with crispy edges, the chewy soft interior was filled with ground peanuts, sugar, and melted margarine. I loved how the spoonful of margarine added a tinge of saltiness to the sugary crushed peanuts. Who'd have thought a simple and unpretentious dish like the Ban Chang Kueh could be so delish and addictive? I had five at one go and two more before the buffet was over!
Available from now to 27 March (as well as in Sep & Dec later this year), the Ban Chang Kueh is part of York Hotel's Penang Hawkers' Fare at White Rose Café.
