Last weekend, I stumbled upon a little bakery tucked inside @with_a_pinch_of_salt, a casual restaurant on Tanjong Katong Road. Occupying a small area near the front, @chefybakehouse isn’t actually new, but have been selling their handmade, freshly-baked and preservatives-free cookies from that spot for some time. There’s a sign outside welcoming people to do some sampling, so without hesitation, in I went.
After tasting a small assortment, I bought a few jars of the “Butter Coffee” and Chefybakehouse’s bestseller, the “Almond”. Both turned out to be really good for different reasons.
The “Butter Coffee” has a light crunchiness that transitions into a lovely melt-in-the-mouth texture while the fragrant “Almond” boasts a savoury tinge and firmer crunch. After I’d shared the cookies with her at work the next day, @rainraineeataway said that the former reminded her very much of the popular Hong Kong brand - “Jenny Bakery”. I couldn’t agree more.

Much had been said by others about mediocre food and the cosy ambience over here at With A Pinch Of Salt. In fact, because of the baby blue and pink decor here, this eatery appears to be a popular venue for those children’s parties during weekends especially.

Anyway back to my visit to WAPOS, of which I only came for the desserts after a good meal before this somewhere else. I ordered the Choco Lava (S$5.90) which was highly recommended by who I would reckon to be the lady boss. I did not quite mind the waiting time as we all know, lava cakes are best made-to-order.

And when the dessert was served to my table, it did look pretty impressive, with a large scoop of ice cream over the cupcake size of a chocolate lava cake. The turning point for me was probably when I planted the spoon into the cake...... given that it was moist inside, it turned out that the cake was overcooked, for the “lava” had already solidified.

I think if given a return visit next time, I’ll probably skip the desserts here and go for their main course or something else. I must clarify that it is not that the food tastes bad, but just that by far the flavours was not impressionable either.

“tired” of it after few bites as the grilled salmon was too dry .. would be better if there is more sauce too.

Ordered the pan sear John Dory set lunch ($11.90) which comes with soup of the day (unfortunately the mushroom soup was so salty) and a drink (fruit punch or lime juice). The dory with the breaded crumbs was yummy but a tad too salty. They also have 10% discount for Pokemon trainer but that's only applicable for the ala carte. Xoxo, wet tissue no have

Pasta with soft shell crab. Pasta tasted a little bland, but it also tasted sweeter than usual? The soft shell crab had more batter than crab meat, which I was very disappointed about. It was like there wasn't any crab meat at all. This dish was a let down :(

Two pieces of chicken cutlet with ham and cheese in between. Similar to KFC double down burger. Chicken was crispy and juicy. Potato was sweet with abit of garlic taste. Very big portion. Worth the price but recommend to share with someone as you can get quite sick of it after a while. Staff were very friendly. Cute store layout. Rating: 3.2/5
