Quick lunch & caffeine fix though the chili could have been more ‘powerful’ & the rice could have been more ‘fragrant’ to bring out the ‘Singaporean’ flavor

Opt for no kaya and they gave me a generous amount of peanut butter spread that makes me so happy! Super soft and fluffy steam bread that is steaming hot when served in that bamboo basket.

Best steam bread set ever!
Yakun eggs in most outlets never fail.

The quintessential eggs to go with a breakfast toast set. Ya Kun’s eggs are usually good, with sufficiently cooked whites and runny yolks.

Best way to start the day!

My favourite order from Ya Kun and any toast shop - this is probably the reason why I patronise Ya Kun more than any other toast shop since they offer 1) steamed bread, and 2) the combination of Kaya and peanut butter. I absolutely love the two together but not every shop sells this combination.

The steamed bread is soft as a cloud and an absolute delight to bite into. The spreads melt into a gooey molten consistency after steaming, which is messy but perfect. The only thing that marred today’s experience was that the bread wasn’t cut properly. Still one of the most comforting local breakfasts and the best part is that it’s widely available at the numerous Ya Kun stalls islandwide!

Arrived at Suntec super early at 7.30am on a Saturday morning so Ya Kun had just opened. I wanted the toastwich but it wouldn’t be ready until an hour later. There weren’t much choices except for the toasted or steamed bread sets plus the muffins and chiffon cake on display.

Chiffon cake wasn’t nice at all. It didn’t have the pillowy soft texture of a chiffon cake, nor did it carry the smell or taste of pandan. The exterior had probably dried out and hardened since it wasn’t fresh - only the middle of the cake was anywhere as soft as what I’d expect from a chiffon cake. Would rather buy a chiffon cake from Giant instead.
