If you love your cheeseburgers, you really don't want to miss this place! @yeoldecow serves up delicious cheeseburgers, addictive fries and absolutely refreshing beers at their food truck.

I had the Traditional Cheeseburger ($18.40) which had 2 dry aged beef patties, 2 slices of cheese, pickles, onions and their house mayo. Now this is one glorious burger, because they really nailed the patties. The patties were juicy, perfectly cooked till medium, and because they were smashed, the sides had a good crust. There was quite alot of meat in each bite and I love how the meat to bun ratio was perfect as well. Buns were soft and nicely buttered. I asked for my onions to be caramelised, giving this burger a slightly sweet touch. The cheese just brought everything together and made the flavour richer. Reviewing this burger got me salivating again!

The addition of fries ($4) was definitely a good decision, as it came in generous portions worthy to share! They were skinny cut, and the outside was crispy while the inside remained fluffy. Now these are really addictive quality fries!

Can't wait to sink my teeth into their burgers again ๐Ÿ˜

Food trucks are very rare in Singapore. Those that immediately come to mind are The Goodburger at Coronation Plaza and Coffee Bandits which used to be at one-north (not sure where they are now).

Ye Olde Cow is the latest to enter the scene. With only three burgers on its menu (all beef) โ€” the OG, Classic and Traditionalโ€” itโ€™s not hard to make a choice. Make it a set (+ $7) and you get one side (fries or salad) and a beverage (iced lemon tea or lemonade).

At the time of my visit, there was a promo: order any set and you get an additional patty for free (usual price + $5). In my ๐—–๐—น๐—ฎ๐˜€๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ฐ ๐—•๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ด๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐˜ ($18.90), the burger came with lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. Very simple, but a combination that canโ€™t go wrong.

The juicy patties, gooey cheese and refreshing vegetables were all plus points. What I felt could be improved were the buns (too oily) and the texture of the patties (the edges were too tough). The pricing was also a little steep, considering thereโ€™s no dining space to maintain.

The fries were surprisingly good. Terrifically crispy and simply seasoned with salt, they were absolutely amazing and definitely a cut above those run-of-the-mill fries served at fast food restaurants.

While not entirely perfect, I felt the burgers at @yeoldecow are worth a try, especially for fans of burgers.

There is quite something appealing about one-north and its startup culture that is often affiliated with the neighbourhood itself โ€” whilst not a particularly common sight elsewhere, there have been several times over the years where food trucks do pop up every now and then in the neighbourhood; we were pretty much fans of Coffee Bandit in the past when they were operating out of a truck and they would usually stop by Fusionopolis just above one-north MRT Station on a Friday serving up specialty coffee, sandwiches and other light bites. Seeing Ye Olde Cow being a mobile food truck serving up burgers at lyf one-north along Nepal Park reminds us of those moments where we were still working in one-north being excited whenever a food truck makes a scheduled stopover for the week. With a focus on smashed cheese burgers, what makes Ye Olde Cow stand out from other similar establishments would be the use of dry aged beef for the burger patty โ€” said to give the patty a beefy, umami and tender goodness; this does somewhat remind us of One Fattened Calf which is situated at Galaxis just a short distance away however which takes a similar approach with their burgers as well. Offering only three (3) burgers, on the menu, all of them are essentially different variation of cheeseburgers โ€” this also means that only burgers featuring beef patties are served here; there are no other meat options or plant-based options for the burgers here, though patrons can choose to have the burger either with a single patty or opting for a double patty variation. Patrons can also opt to make their order a set meal by adding $7 on top of the price of the burger โ€” this would add a side of Plain Fries and a Beverage (Iced Lemon Tea / Lemonade) to the choice of burger chosen; there would be additional charges if one decides to upgrade to Cheese Fries from Plain Fries, or opt for Kombucha instead of the default Iced Lemon Tea / Lemonade served with the set.

Amongst the various burgers which they have to offer, we found that the Traditional appealed to us the most โ€” the Traditional featuring elements such as their signature Ye Olde beef patty, cheese, onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup and house mayo; all that sandwiched in between burger buns. The Traditional would be the classic cheeseburger as we know it โ€” the elements included being what one would expect out of a cheeseburger from a fast food joint but more artisanal. For one, it is obvious how the Traditional from Ye Olde Cow is a true smashed burger โ€” the beef patty having almost completely flattened given how compacted it is.

Taking a bite into the burger, the burger really speaks for itself; the burger bun is light, pillowy and fluffy โ€” a wise move that prevented the burger from being too dense or heavy. Moving down, the combination of mustard, ketchup and pickles is one that would never disappoint โ€” the mix of sauces provided just enough moisture to the burger without causing it to turn into a sloppy mess; all that whilst providing for a refreshing crunch and a slight contrast of different tangy elements in terms of flavour. Nothing would ever go wrong with melted cheese atop the dry aged, smashed beef patty โ€” sinful as it may, but this adds a savoury contrast to the beef patty; the beef patty which is being dubbed the Ye Olde Patty here is indeed on-point with it being particularly flavoursome. Despite it being compacted to a really thin patty, we liked how the Ye Olde Patty is done with a good crustiness โ€” it delivers on what it was described to be; beefy and umami, especially considering how certain bits around the edges carried a note that was especially similar to bacon even, all that whilst being meaty without any hint of gaminess, yet also carrying a consistency where it was tender and carried a good bite without being too fatty or crumbling into a mess. The addition of caramalised onions helps to add a soft, sweet bite to the burger, while we also love how the bottom bun wasnโ€™t heavily soaked with beef juices and sauces from above โ€” a very neat cheeseburger that is also a very well thought-out package overall.

Having opted for the set meal, we also managed to give their Cheese Fries and Iced Lemon Tea a go as well; we were actually pretty impressed with how both the Cheese Fries and Iced Lemon Tea went โ€” the Cheese Fries are essentially shoestring fries that have been seasoned with salt, and drizzled with a cheese sauce that appears to carry a flavour really similar to that of what some fast food joints seemingly use for their variant of the cheese fries as well. That being said, Ye Olde Cow gives their version a bit of a twist โ€” their rendition coming with what they describe as beef crumbs that really is just a sprinkling of bits of beef that is finer than minced beef; these bits seemingly brined for a savoury, beefy note that carries an intentional gaminess that makes it come really close to what some would probably draw references to as poutine, which we found to be rather interesting. The Iced Lemon Tea also deserves a mention here โ€” we felt this was pretty much black tea that came with a larger proportion of their house-made lemonade; pretty balanced when it comes to sweetness against zippiness that makes it quite a refreshing drink with the burger and fries, though what deserves the mention would be how the Iced Lemon Tea does come with bits of lemon rind that not only enhances the flavours of the drink but also provides for something to nibble on. Despite being just a mobile food truck, it does seem like the folks behind Ye Olde Cow takes pride in their craft โ€” there certainly has been a lot of effort that they have gone through to create that artisanal burger which they are proud to serve their patrons with; the dedication and passion required to source the right ingredients, whilst also nailing the execution. With so much care and attention placed in the details, Ye Olde Cow would be one spot that burger fanatics should not be giving a miss!
