This day, instead of focusing on myself, there are many people that I am thankful for. To my ever-supportive family and, awesome girlfriend and travel partner for putting up with my nonsense, thank you. To the numerous wish granters that I am honored to be friends with through the Make A Wish foundation, granting wishes together one child at a time, thank you. To Burpple for making me a Burpple Tastemaker and in the process, meeting and learning from many foodies, thank you. To my colleagues at work for the laughter and making work much more enjoyable, thank you. To my closest friends from Polytechnic and University, people who have gone crazy with me during my St Gallen exchange and venturing to unknown lands during my Shanghai internship, thank you. If I have missed out on anybody, I sincerely apologize but you are in my mind too!

Getting a cooling shaven ice dessert while avoiding the haze in the basement of #OrchardCentral.
YiLi PaoPao Ice hails from Taiwan (haha), and has over 60 years of history. I particularly like the smooth and velvety texture of the ice.

You can get two flavours for $4.95 while their specialty flavours go for $5.60 each with individual toppings ranging from $0.45-$0.95.

Andy is crafting my cup combi of peanut & kidney beans and milk & egg topped with Froot Loops and tamago boro!

Finally got a chance to try this, and I must say I really loved how balanced the flavours were. Without being overly and artificially sweet, both mango and strawberry flavours came out to have a nice blend of sweet and sour, which was a really refreshing end to the very heavy lunch we had.

Enjoyed this fruity combination more than the taro and milk & egg one I had the last time.

I wouldn't call it ice cream. It's consistency is somewhere in between shaved ice and sorbet. Anyhoo its really quite tasty.
It's light on the palette, refreshing, airy yet packs a punch, flavor wise.
The peanut flavor reminds me of the peanut filling in the pancake from Mr Bean(soybean place). Somehow they managed to make the peanut filling into a sorbet of sorts. Almost like a kids dream come true to turn random flavors into ice cream.

I chose the popular Milk & Egg flavour which had mixed reviews amongst us... Like custard, condensed milk, way to sweet. My other flavour was Taro, which I liked and will probably order again.

Ordered 1 of their special flavors, Boba Milk & Egg shaved ice, added black pearl topping and they go together so well. I love the texture of the shaved ice, it's so smooth. Definitely coming back to try the other special flavors.

Ordered their Taro & Peanut w Kidney Beans, and added red beans topping. The taro tasted rather bland but I loved the peanut w kidney beans. And I loved the texture of the shaved ice, it was so smooth. =======================================

One look and it seemed like they are ice-cream, but this is apparently a shaved ice dessert that originated from Shilin Taiwan. Left is the Boba Milk & Egg; pearls added to the Milk & Egg flavour which was creamy and eggy with milk tea flavours. Middle is the Peanut & Kidney Bean which sees a shaved ice with rich nutty flavours filled with Kidney beans to bite. Last was the Pineapple with Milk & Egg; the pineapple was tart and sweet with chunks of pineapple to bite. The shaved ice were really smooth and ice-cream like, which is pretty different from those we are familiar with.

😑 Or can YiLi Pao Pao Ice open right at my doorstep? 😝

$5.60 each. One with BoBo ( the bubble tea pearls), another with red bean. The shaved ice is very smooth but taste very sweet at the bottom.

Smooth and sweet shaved ice tonight that is available from this Taiwan dessert store. Once again I had gotten the deal from the @sugar_singapore, which is why I get to try this sweet treat for free 😍

Overall, I felt it's too sweet altho I preferred the boba one over the peanut, it's like consuming a 120%-150% "sugar level" milk tea with pearls omg, once is enough. #yilipaopaoice

Been wanting to try it and so happened that we walked past it today so am not gonna give it a miss though I already had desserts today 😎 #fatliceeats #yilipaopao #burpple

Crazy hot day, this was refreshing especially the pineapple, and mango (tasted like mango pudding hehe). The other flavours we chose were milk&egg and taro. I prefer the fruitier ones. We actually bought the groupon so it was $4.95 for 2 cups of normal flavours (usual would have been $9.90). You can choose up to 2 flavours per cup, and add toppings (though it's good enough on its own and quite a huge portion of shaved ice. Paid $0.65 for red bean)

Essentially Koi's caramel milk tea (70% sugar) after somebody left it in the freezer to cool for too long. 3.5/5

Yili PaoPao Ice is a famous dessert chain originating from the Shihlin street in Taiwan. It has now made its way into our sunny shores with the hopes that its cheery iced treat will provide a cooling respite in scorching Singapore.

Conveniently located at Orchard Central basement, Yili PaoPao Ice will grab your attention with its eye catching blue signboard. The friendly male staff attended to me, offering me several samples of their best sellers with a bright smile. I tried their Peanut and also Milk and Egg and I did not need to try further and went ahead with these 2.

2 flavours in a cup cost $4.95 with no toppings which was good value for money. I added the Aloe Vera toppings for an additional $0.45. Their shaved ice has a somewhat different feel from other shaved ice. Instead of being finely shaved like snow ice and Korean bingsu, the texture of Yili's shaved ice is a marriage between sorbet and shaved ice, which I really enjoyed.

Milk and Egg was delightfully rich and creamy with distinct tastes of the milk and of course the egg which complemented the milky texture of the shaved ice. Peanut was delicious was so rich and creamy that I felt like I was eating pure peanut butter. It was just too good. Portions wise, Yili scored full marks for being value for money coming hand in hand with quality.

Even though froyo and soft serves are all the rage now, I believe there will be a time when shaved ice is allowed to shine.

I tried the mango but still choose taro in the end.

We were allowed two flavours of ice for each portion; I chose Valentine's fruit and taro. Taro was a tad too bland but it was decent. Valentine's fruit was so good! It reminded me of the green apple flavoured jelly we add into bubble teas, so refreshing! I'm not exactly sure how generous are they with the portions. We went with intention to pay for it but it turned out that they were having some special event and were giving it out for free! What I got here looks like a small portion, but them giving it out for free says a lot about their generosity!
