Reviews at Yomoda Soba (Japan Food Town)

Reviews of good food at Yomoda Soba (Japan Food Town)
After eyeing on this shop since it opened last year, I finally made it here.

I had a Tempura Kake Soba (a slight change from the pre-set menu) because I was craving for something hot and soupy, and yes, it didn't disappoint.
Using a mixture of buckwheat flour imported from Yamanashi, Tochigi and Hokkaido, the soba here is made daily at the shop. It had a good texture, though I would have preferred a slightly (even) firmer bite, and it was surprisingly light on the palate. The Kansai-style MSG-free dashi broth was also another highlight of the dish with its smooth yet bold flavour. There were also some orange peels on top that gave a good refreshing addition to the broth.
The tempura itself was pretty good with my favourite being the juicy chicken and pumpkin. I found the oyster mushroom tempura to be rather "annoying" for it was quite difficult to find the right way to bite it. But aside of that trivial complaint of mine, the tempura was enjoyable with very very little trace of oil and I really enjoyed dipping the tempura into the dashi broth as well.
I would definitely love to try their other dishes here and I think, they have set quite a high standard for other soba shops in town.

Handmade Udon & Soba

Yomoda Soba serves freshly handmade udon and soba using the freshest ingredients imported from Japan. There are many variations, in both tradition and exotic flavors. This is Tendon Set where you have a choice of Seiro (Cold) Soba or Kake (Hot) Soba with a small Tendon. Please read my full review at

Tempura Seiro Soba

Tempura Seiro Soba (S$23++)
A variety of prawn, braised pork, chicken, parprika, pumpkin, and kidney beans, dipped in tempura batter and fried, served with a dipping soup.
Available at @Yomoda_Soba_Singapore in @JapanFoodTown in @WismaAtria
The white 'Sarashina' soba noodle which was made freshly on site everyday with 100% buckwheat from Nagano Japan, was light and smooth. With the cold dipping sauce, it was refreshing to have especially when Singapore's weather was usually quite hot.
I was surprised to find braised pork in the tempura. Encased with a thin crispy crust, the fatty pork was quite tender and I did not feel jelat although the layer of fat was quite thick. My favourite piece of tempura. Can't help wishing that the outlet could offer a plate of braised pork tempura on the menu.

Buta Don Set ($13.80)

Warm and comforting pork rice bowl PLUS a choice of cold seiro soba or hot kake soba, this lunch set comes with 3 appetizers and is tagged at only $13.80. If you have the Japan Food Town app, you can utilize the welcome coupon and get 20% discount. πŸ˜„

The thinly sliced pork is lightly flavoured with added sweetness from the soft onions. πŸ˜‹ The highlight of the meal is definitely the hero of this petite stall - soba. Yomoda's soba is freshly made DAILY and there is NO MSG used here. The consistency is close to those we had in Japan. Noodles had a great bite with the right degree of chewiness. A great meal to have when in need of carbo. 😁

Pork Nanban Tsuke Soba

Pork Nanban Tsuke Soba ($15)

When I have a soba craving, I would come to this @Yomoda_Soba_Singapore or head to Nadai Fuji Soba (at 100AM) for my fix. The cold soba here is served with a bowl of hot soup but I didn't really want to dip my bowl of cold noodles in there cos I think that kind of defeats the purpose of ordering cold soba in the first place. Thankfully, no issues with specially requesting for a bowl of their dipping sauce at no extra charge!

Overall, the food here won't burn a hole in your pocket and tastes decent. The variety offered is also fairly large and I'm looking to try their curry soba next! Would love to have other soba speciality places to checkout too thoughπŸ€”!

Take note that the curry is not Japanese curry

Katsu Soba Set ($20)

Loved the texture of the soba, although the Katsu felt tough. Huge portions! Fitting for a hungry soul.

Hot Spicy Soy Milk Chicken Soba ($22)

Spent lunch running around the newly opened Japanese Food Town at Wisma! With 16 Japanese concepts here, there's sure to be something for you. πŸ™Œ

We definitely wanted to try one of the sobas from Yomoda Soba and this one caught our eyes. Just mix in the spicy minced meat with miso and you're good to go! 🍜

It was nubbad, but reminded us more of Chinese cuisine than πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅. Will be back though to try their Hot Asari Soba instead. πŸ˜‹

Hot Spicy Soy Milk Chicken Soba

The soup is creamy but not too thick so you can slurp it to your inner desire. At a price of $22, it's definitely pricy but it's well worth your money for an authentic soba experience.

Hot Curry Pork Nanban Soba ($21) is a Yomoda original Japanese-style Indian curry mixed with soba soup. The first sip brings on a comforting medley, its Japanese influence expectedly heavier. Savoury pork flavour, salty with the kick of curry spice, fused with the sourness of tomatoes, creating this big bowl of hearty warmth, especially fitting for those cold, rainy days. Chilli flakes are set on the side to use at your discretion. Thin pork slices boiled and chewy let you take in the fatty fragrance as it mixes in your mouth with protein. Soba is thoroughly cooked till soft to go with leeks and carrots.

Had an extremely satisfying meal at the newly opened YOMODA SOBA outlet at Wisma Atria's @japanfoodtown 🍜

We had the Tempura Seiro Soba: hot soba with a generous serving of perfectly crisp and lightly battered prawn, chicken and a variety of veggies; as well as the Tendon Set: cold soba (our choice) and a bowl of tempura on a bed of rice, with 3 side dishes!
The broth was amazingly fragrant with hints of yuzu (for the hot soba)! I loved how bouncy the soba noodles were, and it's no wonder since all their noodles are made fresh on-site using 100% buckwheat flour from Nagano, Japan. πŸ‡―πŸ‡΅
It's been long since I had a good Japanese meal so thank you @jpassportsg and @yomoda_soba_singapore for having us!
