And my first meal in Paris had to be at this one-michelin-starred place that's full of showmanship but having nothing in substance.

I thought I would love French-Japanese, to taste the exacting standards of the Japanese applied to French cuisine. And this place happened to have a Michelin star.

The dishes were very pretty, but food ranges from mediocre to below average. The service staff did everything you need to check off boxes - take your coat, smile, go through menu, asked if your meal was good - but service was actually bad, and they still manage to do it with a smile. And when they asked me if I liked my meal, I told them what was wrong with the food, and they smiled, "ok", and went off.

It's really just about the show - dishing out bad food with pretty plating, and providing bad service with a smile.
