Balmy morning with a spot of rain. This is the perfect antidote. Happy Holy Saturday all.

Fish soup for lunch today with lots of vegetables

The nasi lemak was a side we shared! Back to my mains, I love this fish soup here. Soup is full of umami and msg free and their fried fish is one of the best I’ve had. Had it with Yee Mee today and with extra greens, chye sim and bittergourd. So yummy. Fish soup cravings satisfied.

No msg and super fresh fish, my go to for comfort food

A few of us trooped over today to check out this fish soup stall in Havelock Food Centre that's been raved about for a while now by Burppler @blueskiescottonclouds.
"Yu Mei Mei Shi" (unit #01-15) has been open for 22 years and is actually rather well-known, especially among many taxi drivers. Karen, the stall owners' daughter is an ex-colleague and friend of Angeline's, and she'd quit her banking job to help her parents out.
Being greedy, I couldn't stop myself from ordering a customised bowl of chunkily-cut red garoupa, fish roe, "yubao" (creamy fish sac), fried fish and bittergourd. My bill came to $13.50 with a bowl of rice. Not cheap for hawker fare but I think it's worth it because of the quality of the ingredients. In spite of a light, clear appearance, the soup was impressive in depth and sweetness too.
A must-have dip is the sambal belachan. Made by the stall owners themselves, it is spicy and extra appetising from the inclusion of lime juice.

Back at my fav with extra fried fish and bittergourd.
