Morning vibes at Y Y...

It is weird how people are creatures of habit.
Although I these are the standard items that I would typically order at YY but after their renovation , I find that the food is just simpler not the same - even the staffing has changed slightly - somehow not as friendly or as family - like as before .

The bread was significantly less fluffy and less aromatic than before and not as well toasted and the morning bee Hoon was slightly more oily and portions have reduced .

Hopefully things change soon .

The version here is slightly smaller in portion, probably due to the prime location, and lacking slightly in wokhei-ness. Overall, it is a decent option but definitely not the best. Are there other dry beef hor fun out there that is worth a visit?

Finally visited @yykafeidian and got to try their fluffy bread with hainanese kaya. This was really good with a slab of butter 😋 Hopefully I get to try their donuts and other items one day!

Second failed trip to YY Kafei Dian for their traditional donuts but couldn’t go empty handed so we ended up with Kaya buns and a sponge cake to share.

Originally thought this was a butter cake, but it was more spongey and soft. It had a lovely springiness and moistness that caught us by surprise! Much nicer than we expected. There was also a gula melaka fragrance that wasn’t overpoweringly sweet. Overall a very very yummy cake and I will be sure to get it again (if I can’t get the donuts 😂)

Not exaggerating, this kaya toast changed my life a bit. The toast here is large but it’s so fluffy and light. Slathered generously with kaya, it’s perfect when you dip it in the toast. I also love the gula melaka kueh here (the brown one in the foreground)- it melts in your mouth completely! Bought another pack after eating it.

Tried their breakfast menu, kaya bread was warm and fluffy with generous spread ($1.30) and the eggs was just the right texture. Got economic beehoon from the stall beside ($3.10 for my plate) and felt it was value for money.
