I opted for the dry version and it was yummy too! Used to only have Thw soup version.

The tomato base is pretty, not the ridiculously intense kind but strong enough yet drinkable.

THEIR INTESTINES SUCK, there's a foul smell that seeps into the entire broth

Out of all the balls, they were all decent but the cuttlefish is a standout. For those who don't usually get balls, you should try the cuttlefish.

Bamboo shoots were fine but slightly sour

Beef had a bite but thankfully was sliced very thinly and fatty enough so it's quite palatable

Beef tripe was passable

Overall hits and misses, the broths aren't good enough to make me return either. Yangguofu just across the road left a much stronger impression

Jesus this fed more than 1 but the price is scary

The pork belly has a nice bite, most ingredients were cooked well and potato was Stellar w a slightly soft texture.

The sauce is pretty mild, mainly peanut based and thin so it is quite different from the usual. Even at medium heat there's barely any heat, I prefer stronger flavours.

📍Zhang Liang Mala Tang, Bugis Junction

💯 Mala Tang!

They have a wide range of less commonly seen ingredients to choose from (including fish roe ball, scallops, prawns, fish and a whole lot more!)

You’re charged per 100g here instead of the items you take! It costs $2.88 per 100g (min. 300g) and you’re able to choose your soup base (mala, mushroom and tomato)!

They have a condiments section on the side where you’re able to add on more ma, more la, sesame oil, sesame sauce etc! (think haidilao condiments section but for mala instead 😋) This place is great for everyone as you’re able to control the spice levels for each bowl!

The soup was sooo tasty, would recommend trying it before adding anything further! My bowl came up to $13.87 which was really worth it considering the amount of meat i added 😍

I really enjoyed this MalaTang, it was creamy and not too oily! Will definitely be back for more 🤤😍

Went to Zhang Liang to try their soup mala recently and paid about $34 for 2 pax! This restaurant is more of a self-pick ingredients which goes by weight and you can choose the soup or the stir fried style😇 The soup looked a little like laksa to me but taste wise its like a creamy mala soup base! Overall ratings would be 7.5/10 and would visit again to try their dry mala🤩

Caught up with an old friend over dinner a few days ago at Zhang Liang Mala Tang’s Bugis Junction outlet, where we both ordered a bowl of mala tang for ourselves. I have to admit that I’m usually more accustomed to the dry version when it comes to mala, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed this soup version! We were spoilt for choice with their selection of fresh ingredients with over 60 kinds to choose from (charged by weight at $2.88 per 100g), and we went for the Mala (me) and Tomato (him) soup base for our individual bowls! The mala soup wasn’t very spicy at all, and it was really tasty and slurpable, while the tomato soup was tangy and equally slurpable! You can also customise your own sauces at the condiments station to dip your ingredients in for added flavour! Would definitely return again to eat!
