($7.50) taste not bad but a bit of milky and grassy texture btw. I wanted to try their another flavour for matcha.

Found a gem in the heart of Chinatown! Just a few steps away from the 2nd level of Hong Lim Complex, lies @springcoffee.sg , a lovely quaint cafe good for coffee and conversations.

We had their new Strawberry Matcha ($8.50) and I must say it was quite refreshing! Do give it a good stir, and you will feel like the matcha and strawberry flavours complement well together. We like the homemade strawberry jam below, as it came with several very soft pieces of strawberry that isn't too sweet. A very pretty drink indeed!

I love a good coffee, and their Iced Latte ($5.50) is one worth to come back for. It had the right amount of milk, and I like how strong and nutty the coffee was such that it does not get diluted towards the end. Definitely a smooth cup of coffee I would love to have again!

Will be back again once I'm around the area!

One of those openings that concerns the F&B scene that had been somewhat mentioned on social media the week before would be Spring Coffee. Spring Coffee is pretty much in a hidden location unless one knows exactly where to look out for it β€” whilst being located in the buzzy Hong Lim Complex which is in the block adjacent to Hong Lim Complex Market and Food Centre, Spring Coffee itself is situated in a shop unit that is a little far from where one would walk around the complex to either head to the food centre or Chinatown Point. Instead, Spring Coffee is located in the second floor of Blk 531 Upper Cross Street; the shop unit actually faces the multi-storey carpark of Hong Lim Complex β€” for those whom frequent the area often, Spring Coffee had essentially taken over the premises of the now-defunct Beulah Kitchen which was a mom-and-pop eatery that served up local and western fare. Spring Coffee had actually done quite a extensive job to renovate the space β€” gone would be open air-concept eatery where shutters were used in place of doors and windows in the past to facilitate for air circulation; Spring Coffee has effectively closed up the space with windows and doors which suits its operations as an air-conditioned cafe. The interior space features a green interior that is matched with white walls and white counter tops; the furniture and fittings being mostly of wooden accents that provides a warm and inviting look. Specialty coffee is largely a focus of Spring Coffee’s operations here β€” these folks brew their espresso-based specialty coffee using beans roasted by Two Degrees North Coffee Co.; the same folks whom have also brought us concepts like The Populus: Coffee & Food Co. at Neil Road and The Apricus Coffee & Food Co. at Jalan Kayu. For those whom are feeling peckish, Spring Coffee does offer a small variety of bakes to choose from as well.

Having skimmed through the menu and the bakes on display at the counter, we thought that it would be good if we would get a slice of the Banana Bread to go along with our White (3 Oz); the latter being almost equivalent to that of Piccolo Latte. Considering how we had opted for a cuppa with lesser milk, the White (3 Oz) was a cuppa that comes with a fairly strong body β€” the notes of the cuppa being one that is more towards the bright and fruity sort. It is being said that Spring Coffee sources their variety of pastries and bakes from Yeastside; a local bakery specialising in sourdough bread and pizzas which also have outlets operating in both Farrer Park and King Albert Park β€” the Banana Bread is heated up upon order and served warm as-is for those whom are dining in. Given how the Banana Bread is served warm, the exterior comes all crusty and toasty, while the inside still remains sufficiently dense for a banana bread but not too heavy β€” there aren’t really any noticeable bits of banana in the Banana Bread, but one can still taste that distinctive note of banana sweetness in the Banana Bread here. Currently still in soft-launch mode, Spring Coffee is operating on a tip-only basis β€” patrons make payment for their orders in the amount that they wish to pay here. That being said, the prices for both coffee and bakes do seem fairly reasonable at Spring Coffee nonetheless. Considering how Spring Coffee is located at the far end of Hong Lim Complex which is also slightly away from where the crowd usually is at, Spring Coffee does sound like a serene spot for a relaxed cuppa over some cakes and pastries in a rather centralised spot near the Central Business District β€” a spot that one can enjoy a slow cuppa at in the middle of all the hustle and bustle.
