New Restaurants, Cafes & Bars in Singapore: December 2019

Here are 8 more buzzy new spots to check out with your loved ones this December — there's luxurious Taiwanese desserts, innovative cocktail bars as well as a couple of yummy Japanese options to keep you full this feast-ive season!

This leading ramen franchise from London has finally opened its doors in Singapore. Order the Spicy Yuzu Ramen (from $16.90) featuring their signature tonkotsu soup base and super tender pork collar chashu that's marinated for 24 hours! Also good is their classic bone broth Kotteri Tonkotsu Ramen (from $14.90) seasonedwith Kanada’s special shoyu tare (concentrated soy sauce). On sides, we recommend getting the crispy Crab Cream Korokke ($9.90) made with mashed potato, crab meat and vegetables.

Boasting mid-century Jap influence is this sleek new bar by Jigger and Pony that replaces Flagship on Bukit Pasoh. With gorgeous wood finishings, plush seats and dim light, this spot is excellent for night caps, intimate drinks with your mates or even a date. Snack on delicious bar bites such as the Wasabi Cheese Terrine ($8) and the Ebi & Corn Sando ($22). On cocktails, have the Snow Flurries ($25), a twist on a Negroni with traces of Oolong, Shiraz and a dark Finnish gin. Also good is the apple-and-rum combi, Quiet Inlet ($25).

At the entrance of Plaza Sing, find this famous burger joint hailing from the US. Have their Little Bacon Cheeseburger ($15) featuring a single beef patty, crisp applewood-smoked bacon and freshly-baked buns. Choose your toppings, or simply go 'All The Way'. All burgers are a la carte, so complete your meal with their spicy Little Cajun Fries ($7) that are pretty darn perfect. If you have a sweet tooth, share the Five Guys Shake ($10) — great combinations include the peanut butter + salted caramel + bacon or strawberry + malted milk.

With single-seat booths and sharing tables, this ramen joint in Tanjong Pagar Plaza is deal for either flying solo or eating in groups. Go straight for the comforting Black Truffle Ramen ($16) that sees two thick slices of char siew, an oozy egg, bamboo shoots, and black fungus. Otherwise, tickle your tastebuds with the Spicy Ramen ($12) that sets itself apart with its haebee-licious house-made sambal.

On cool nights, swing by this restaurant in Paya Lebar Quarter for hotpot with your loved ones. Select your choice of broth — we say go with the spicy Tsurai Miso Soup or the foolproof Tonkotsu Soup. Fill up on the Karubi US Short Ribs ($16.80) and Butakara Kurobuta Pork Collar ($12). On carbs, there's Inaniwa Udon ($6.80) and Cha Soba ($6.80). Wash that all down with the refreshing Citrus Fruit with Homemade Barley drink ($5.80).

This popular Taiwanese brand located in Capitol basement takes on traditional desserts with their own modern twist. Noteworthy mentions include their Taiwan Taro Lava With Taro Pearl And Cream Mousse ($6.60) or the labouriously prepared Roasted Mung Bean Soup With Golden QQ ($6) which boasts a lovely toasted flavour. If you wish to enjoy your dessert on-the-go, opt for their Fresh Mango With Golden Crystal And Creamy Sago Milk ($6.90) that comes in a cup.

Have fun customising your Rolled Pork & Vegetables Katsu Set ($22) from over 20 ingredients. The set comes with rice, miso soup, a breaded ramen egg, free-flow cabbage salad and sauce bar. Also good is the Salmon Rare Katsu Set ($25) that comes with two big pieces of ebi tempura and half a hotate tempura. There's also an Assorted Seafood Katsu Set ($20.90) that's sure to satisfy!

This cosy, romantic spot around the corner from Neil Road is perfect for an after-work tipple with a date. Start with the Buffalo Road ($22), where pink guava-infused gin is mixed with homemade vetiver and tonic water. Alternatively, the health-ful Kamasutra ($22) sees house-infused garlic wine and caramelised pomegranate⁣⁣. Rum-lovers will enjoy the sweet-and-sour Beeda Man ($22) as well as the Tekka ($22) that comes topped with deep-fried banana skin, lime cream and chicken65 powder.

This cafe-bar previously shared a space with Maxi Coffee Bar, and now has its own spot on Keong Saik Road. Fill up on the Smoked Mackerel on Toast ($20) — oak-smoked mackerel and kale smothered in avocado butter — and the zesty Linguine with Pickled Crab ($22). On cocktails, have the Hay & Apples ($20), which sees whisky soda mixed with peated whisky and fermented apples, or the tangy Bloody Mary ($20) spiked with wasabi distillate. Otherwise, their smooth and light White Coffee ($5) is a great non-alcoholic option.

Swing by the iconic Red House for breakfast with the gang — perfect for easties who aren't able to make it to the original outlet at Serene Centre. Share the delectable Grilled Cheese ($12) that’s balanced with sauerkraut and tomato jam, as well as their House Ricotta Tartine ($12) featuring smooth, house-made ricotta and delightfully tangy sourdough toast. For an elevated take on the Egg McMuffin, have their scrumptious Breakfast Burger ($16.50) that sees scrambled eggs, cheese and bacon sandwiched in a broiche bun. Also good is their crispy Wurst Rosti (S$23.50) hidden beneath a blanket of sunny side up eggs. End your meal on a sweet note with the Miso Caramel Soft Serve ($7) topped with caramel popcorn. Find this fast food joint in the basement of Raffles City Shopping Centre that’s great for no-frills healthy lunches. Come for their Roasted Barramundi ($12.90) souvlaki grain bowls, where a dill-marinated fillet sits on a bed of quinoa, mixed greens, roasted broccoli and cauliflower, doused in Greek vinaigrette and homemade parmigiano sauce. Otherwise, the Flame Grilled Steak ($13.90) is a winner with an appetizing, tangy Greek vinaigrette, tzatziki and hummus. Yum!
