Instead of boring old chocolates, I got nonya kuehs for my colleagues to share for Christmas.
Go straight for the recommended Tiong Bahru Galicier Pastry’s lip-smacking trio - Ondeh Ondeh, Kueh Dadar and Putu Ayu! My first Kueh Dadar, the pandan-flavoured pancake roll filled with grated coconut was crunchy and not overly sweet. The Putu Ayu too, had a great texture and delightful fragrance of coconut. The winner was however the small sweet potato glutinous rice balls that was soft and slightly chewy. These 60-cents per piece of oozing goodness, was truly one of the best ondeh ondeh I have eaten and the interesting use of sesame seeds in the gula melaka did much to enhanced the overall flavour.
