Was expecting something much inkier, the colour of charcoal, but the squid ink-infused waffle turned out a muted dark grey, as if someone had cast a Perpetua filter over it in real life. The rather flat hollandaise needed more egg yolk, too.
I wish they'd used cream cheese icing or cheesecake ice cream to really drive home the "red velvet" angle. If I hadn't known, I'd have thought I was just eating a chocolate waffle with vanilla ice cream – oh wait, that is what I was eating... Red velvet whut????
Sounded like the oddest combi but too unique to give it a miss. Though I didn't taste the squid ink at all(maybe more like colouring?) , the crispy bacon was to die for. It tasted like bak kwa but better. It went super well with the waffle and ice cream. Now this is going to set me searching for the next best sweet + savoury waffle. Any contenders?
This would bring euphoria to every matcha lover out there. Tho the color of the waffle doesn't seem to be the most appetizing, the taste is just right. As I bite into the waffle, the taste and aroma of green tea slowly emerged and I like that. Azuki beans added texture to this dessert which I think is brilliant and helps to tone down the sweetness of the dessert which is great for people who doesn't like food that are overly sweet.
Quick food review!
Coffee, rather disappointing as it was pretty average, which means to say that I'd rather have my fragrant $1 Kopi-O Kosong any day over this.
Truffle Fries, served hot! Well salted with cheese shavings, rather palatable.
Banana Brulee Waffle with vanilla i/c deserves a thumbs up! The banana chunks were torched and caramelized, strawberry slices were refreshing, vanilla i/c was a perfect combi.
Waffle with banana, chocolate syrup and peanut butter, SKIP THIS.
Overall, you may either find the place cosy, otherwise you might find it small. I'd return, only if I had a craving for the Banana Brulee Waffle.
Soft waffles with sweet toppings - sliced strawberry, banana and ice cream - which was a plus. The ambiance of the cafe was lovely as well, which made the experience at the cafe a good one.
Back at Waffle Slayer for some dessert fix, and striking off two more waffles off the sweet list. I tried almost all the waffles on the menu, and last on my list would be the buttermilk waffles with chocolate fudge and peanut butter.
If savoury waffles are not your pick, Waffle Slayer also has eight new sweet waffles on top of Stranger's Reunion range to choose from. This one has crumbly bits of cookies that were subtly sweet and finely chopped almonds to pair up with caramalised apples on top of the waffle. The Vanilla ice-cream on the top makes it an Apple Pie ala Mode in waffle form.
One of the specials on the day of visit to Stranger's Reunion's cafe specially dedicated to their famous Buttermilk Waffles. The same fragrant waffles with a slab of thick, juicy fried chicken on top with mayo drizzled. Not exactly something that would fit all tastebuds, but will definitely hit the savoury lovers
Back at Waffles Slayer to try one out of the two Savory waffles, featured in this picture; the Squid Ink waffles ($18.90) with candied bacon, topped with a scoop of icy cool vanilla gelato and finally garnished with thin, crispy pistachio tuiles.
This inviting savory waffle is more than meets the eye. Both sweet and savory are here. I would say yum to savory, but some others may said yuck, because they like them sweet of course. I'd go back right again if I could, but I should have some self discipline though. Enough of waffling for the time being.
There was only a limited choice of savory waffles (2 to be exact), so I chose the one with bacon. As interesting as it sounds, it doesn't taste of squid ink. Nevertheless, I love love the buttermilk waffles here at Waffle Slayer/ Stranger's Reunion. Soft, fluffy and buttery, hmm. Paired with bacon and ice cream, surprisingly, it didn't taste weird but came quite well together.
Squid Ink Waffle with smoked salmon, poached egg and hollandaise sauce. Savoury waffle, surprisingly good and perfect with a cup of good macchiato. It was a great start of the day!
Its hard to find anything matcha on one's menu but Waffle Slayers offers this! Major plus point. Absolutely loved their matcha waffles topped with a single scoop of vanilla ice cream and azuki red beans. Yum! 😜 Their red velvet waffle was a lil disappointing though. But the nice cosy ambience kind of made up for it. Loved the fact that they are not overly crowded, considering that it was a Sunday. 👍
I'm not a huge coffee fan but I thought the flat white here was pretty good. Smooth and not too heavy. The cafe has a nice cosy atmosphere as well. Perfect chill out spot.
I love savory waffles! This waffle goes so well with the poached egg and smoked salmon! It's really worth a try if you haven't tried savory waffle before. Nice and cosy place for waffles and coffee!
