My third time to SR.
1st time I left because nobody wanted to attend to us, queueing system (maybe no such system) sucks. Our Q gets cut and so on.
2nd, finally tried their waffles, was pretty satisfied.
3rd, which is today, approached a staff to ask what time WS open, he is not sure. So we waited quite a while, we were greeted by another staff who told us we could go in, place our order, however it will take a little while since they just open. We are fine about it. Ordered 1 out of 2 savoury waffles, Squid Ink Waffles with Poached Eggs, but was told that it's not available as she doesn't know how to make poached eggs, so, we ordered 2 sweet waffles instead.
Shortly after, someone placed an order for another savoury waffles (bacon & ice cream), the staff shouted through the small window shared between SR & WS, that she doesn't know how to make bacon waffles, then I heard some replies from SR's side that "ay does anyone knows how to make bacon waffles?" Not trying to complain, am just sharing my experience here.
Our last time here? Maybe.
The service suck when I arrive. Server gave us a table just at e entrance & we were advised he will be back awhile to cleanup the table for us. But after a 10mins wait still didn't turnup. At the same time, a group of people left, me & girlfriend intended to head in as the aircon is cooler inside for that empty table. That same server saw us & rudely told us to move back to e entrance & ask us to be seated at the sofa outside near the entrance. We will given a seat about another 10mins wait later on. To me, service alway come 1st & when a place is busy, their services is alway a let down. Overall, the coffee & waffles are good. E environment is a good place for an afternoon chitchat session with frends.
like 2 hungry ladies ready for a boodle fight.. lol! Just next to the first cafe on my 2013 list (Stranger's Reunion), is where u can find yourself a delectable, toothsome, sweet treats.. Flat white, Squid ink waffle with crispy bacon, pistacio tuile & vanilla ice cream, Matcha buttermilk waffle with azuki & vanilla ice cream.. Just the looks.. it's so inviting.. but yeah, I guess the 2 big waffles are enough for 2 tiny ladies with big appetite.. haha! See u on the next one! #burpple #sg #singapore #weekend #sweettooth #sweets #waffles #waffleslayer #cafehopping #cafestovisitinsg2014 #cafehunt #cafe #cafestovisitinsg #coffee #sosinful #sinfulweekend #delights
Quick food review!
Coffee, rather disappointing as it was pretty average, which means to say that I'd rather have my fragrant $1 Kopi-O Kosong any day over this.
Truffle Fries, served hot! Well salted with cheese shavings, rather palatable.
Banana Brulee Waffle with vanilla i/c deserves a thumbs up! The banana chunks were torched and caramelized, strawberry slices were refreshing, vanilla i/c was a perfect combi.
Waffle with banana, chocolate syrup and peanut butter, SKIP THIS.
Overall, you may either find the place cosy, otherwise you might find it small. I'd return, only if I had a craving for the Banana Brulee Waffle.
Back at Waffles Slayer to try one out of the two Savory waffles, featured in this picture; the Squid Ink waffles ($18.90) with candied bacon, topped with a scoop of icy cool vanilla gelato and finally garnished with thin, crispy pistachio tuiles.
This inviting savory waffle is more than meets the eye. Both sweet and savory are here. I would say yum to savory, but some others may said yuck, because they like them sweet of course. I'd go back right again if I could, but I should have some self discipline though. Enough of waffling for the time being.
This would bring euphoria to every matcha lover out there. Tho the color of the waffle doesn't seem to be the most appetizing, the taste is just right. As I bite into the waffle, the taste and aroma of green tea slowly emerged and I like that. Azuki beans added texture to this dessert which I think is brilliant and helps to tone down the sweetness of the dessert which is great for people who doesn't like food that are overly sweet.
The clever lads of Stranger's Reunion have made their best-selling buttermilk waffles the main act at Waffle Slayer just next door. Serving up flavour combinations of all kinds, get adventurous with the squid ink or matcha waffles. If you'd rather stick to the plain buttermilk, go for the chicken shnitzel with kaffir lime mayo. While they are pretty pricey, the combinations are worth a try! Photo by Charlene Tan
➌ [Matcha Buttermilk Waffles - with Azuki beans, vanilla ice cream S$14.90] - green tea flavour was good, however there is this strong overwhelming sourish taste, to the extend that I thought it had turn bad. The friendly staff assured me that they had added yogurt into the waffle batter and even offered maple syrup, thank you. Azuki beans not sweet at all, waffles too, good for people who doesn't like sweet.
If savoury waffles are not your pick, Waffle Slayer also has eight new sweet waffles on top of Stranger's Reunion range to choose from. This one has crumbly bits of cookies that were subtly sweet and finely chopped almonds to pair up with caramalised apples on top of the waffle. The Vanilla ice-cream on the top makes it an Apple Pie ala Mode in waffle form.
Sounded like the oddest combi but too unique to give it a miss. Though I didn't taste the squid ink at all(maybe more like colouring?) , the crispy bacon was to die for. It tasted like bak kwa but better. It went super well with the waffle and ice cream. Now this is going to set me searching for the next best sweet + savoury waffle. Any contenders?
Salted caramel ice cream will always be my go-to and never once did it disappoint me. Coupled w the almond crumbs it's so addictive I was scooping for more from the waffles. The candied apples however were too sweet I chuck it aside after having one. Waffles were fragrant and moist too, which makes it even more heavenly for a sweet tooth like me!
One of the specials on the day of visit to Stranger's Reunion's cafe specially dedicated to their famous Buttermilk Waffles. The same fragrant waffles with a slab of thick, juicy fried chicken on top with mayo drizzled. Not exactly something that would fit all tastebuds, but will definitely hit the savoury lovers
Haha ok no la. We slayed two and shared half of each - Red Velvet & Banana Brûlée Buttermilk Waffles. Though I would throw money at someone who makes me a yuanyang flavoured waffle hmmm ☕️ #onthetable #waffles #redvelvet #bananabrulee #brunch #🔪🔪🔪 #waffleslayer #sharingiscaring #love #goodservice #okwaffles
Waffle Slayer is opened by Strangers' Reunion! Red Velvet Buttermilk & Matcha Buttermilk; $14.90 each. But sadly, it is not as good as I expected. Waffles aren't crispy enough, too soft. But all in all, it was a nice, relaxing and good to hang out café!
➊ [Red Velvet Buttermilk Waffles - with pistachio tuile, chocolate fudge, vanilla ice cream S$14.90] - kind of lacking in taste, but still alright. Not fantastic.
➋ [Flat White S$4.90] - k says coffee standard had dropped. (Not in pic)
