No meal is complete without first having desserts. In Porta’s refreshed menu, the Black Forest ($14) is perhaps the star of the tasting. Paying homage to the German Black Forest Cake, this is a deconstructed version with the chocolate lava cake, that’s made with Filipino Dark Malagos chocolate with 75% cocoa, playing the role of the layered chocolate cake. The bitterness from the lava cake is contrasted by the sweetness from the whipped coconut cream, which created a balance of flavour profiles. To up the ante further, maraschino cherries, that has been brined with a mixture of cinnamon, juniper berries and star anise and sugar-coated raw cocoa nibs are added as the finishing touch. If you prefer something that’s lighter, there’s the Spiced Apple Tarte Tatin ($14) that’s made from Granny Smith Apples, which has been stewed in a maple and herb syrup and served with a rum & raisin ice cream. _____________ Porta Address: 1, Unity Street, Level 1, Park Hotel Clarke Quay, Singapore 237983 _________________ #sgrestaurants #restaurantsg #exploresingapore #stfoodtrending #burpple #burpplesg #foreverhungry #whatmakessg #sgfood #sgig #sgfoodies #instafood_sg #instasg #setheats #hungrygowhere #singaporeinsiders #foodspotting #foodporn #foodstagram #foodphotography #instafood #buzzfeedfood #aworldtoeat #mediainvite #portasg

A dish which I was surprised I would enjoy. Guess what? This spring roll lookalike dish is one of the starters on the refreshed menu of @PortaSG. This is the Confit Lamb Pastilla, where the Pastilla is a crispy deep fried roll with Australian Lamb shank fillings and served with yogurt, pistachio and cumin. It is enjoyable and very moreish!

Giving into temptation! Chef Alex turns the classic Black Forest slice cake into a different kind of dessert. The Black Forest ($14) comes with luscious dark Malagos chocolate lava cake adorned with maraschino cherries and swirls of whipped coconut cream. Each bite is delighted with rich chocolate taste, as you dig in with toasted desiccated coconut and sugar-coated raw cocoa nibs from the Philippines. P.S: PORTA serves attractive set lunches on weekdays between 12.00pm to 2.30pm. 2-course set lunch is $18++ with choice of appetiser+main, or main+dessert, whereas a 3-course is $22++ with a choice of appetiser, main, and dessert. Burpple 1 for 1 Burpple beyond 1 for 1 with total bill of $94.16 (with GST). Set menu comes with Soup, Pasta, Dessert and drink. I think the staff missed out the drinks, NO drinks are served. Don’t think its consider 1 for 1 as the pasta has to be lower than $27, soup cost about $11 and dessert cost less than $15. Total cost for a person shouldn’t be more than $50. Highly recommended for their Prawns and scallops homemade pasta, and the Beef Ravioli. Would rather go for ala clarte than Burpple beyond set menu 1 for 1.

Squid Ink Pasta I have had rly high expectations of this place, especially after walking past its wall of accolades. Sadly I was kinda disappointed (at my dish at least) - the spaghetti was only thinly coated with the squid ink and I thought the sauce was actually pretty salty. The spaghetti was however indeed al dente but I just expected a little more. Nice place though! Rating: 3.5/5

🎶You drive me CRAYzy, I just can’t sleep~ I’m so excited, I’m in too deep~🎶 . When this plate of Spaghetti Al Cartoccio Del Barcarolo Alla Marinara ($27.50++) was served, it really did almost drive me CRAYzy! 🤩🤩🤩 Just look at the 3 halves of huge crayfish that lay atop the pile of spaghetti! As a carbs lover, this looked like heaven to me. 💯 . Featuring spaghetti with crayfish, garlic, herbs & tomato sauce served in parchment paper, this was quite a crowd-pleaser. 💕 I like tomato-based pasta & this rendition certainly is a good one. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 . The sauce was the real deal - lots of tomato puree was used instead of watery tomato sauce, which explains the natural sweetness with a tinge of sour that made the starchy dish a refreshing one. 😋😋😋 The addition of garlic slices made the mix an irresistibly aromatic one. ✔ . The spaghetti was done al-dente, springy with a firm bite - so yummy on its own when coated with the tomato sauce! ⭐ Somehow, the accompanying ingredients did not match up. Albeit looking pretty big in size, the crayfish meat was meagre & while having a firm texture, I could not taste any natural seafood sweetness at all. 😢 . To me, it was the sauce & spaghetti that really carried the dish. 🤤 You can choose to add $8 to switch to truffle cream sauce but I personally felt that this tomato base works very well. 1-for-1 3-course meal using #BurppleBeyond makes this a worthwhile deal! ✌🏻✌🏻✌🏻

Inside Scoop
Iberico Pork & Chorizo Iberico “Lu Rou Fan” Many reasons why Gastrosmiths lends itself as one of my favourite restaurants in Singapore. While the new menu first left me sad, with the thought that their signature breakfast scrambled eggs for brunch and somen broth for dinner was now only an experience to remember; my burpple menu was a excellent dinner to end off a long work week. @ the mains was a meticulously delicious plate of pasta; made with a few vegetarian ingredients but exceedingly satisfying and appropriately rich. The “lu rou fan” was also a burst of flavours while I wish the meat was slightly more tender for my childish palate.

Italy- Import Mortadella Ham, Tuna Aioli, Orange Honey, Arugula, Chilli, Olive Oil Many reasons why Gastrosmiths lends itself as one of my favourite restaurants in Singapore. While the new menu first left me sad, with the thought that their signature scrambled eggs for brunch and somen broth for dinner was now only an experience to remember; my burpplebeyond menu was a excellent dinner to end off a long work week. If I had to rank the dishes, the Argentinean Wild Caught Prawns sits at the top of the table as fresh and one of the most succulent rendition of the shellfish I had. This was not to say the other appetisers were not outstanding; far from that they were each good in their own ways. Some things that left an impression was the surprising pairing of mortadella ham and tuna aioli that worked, then cauliflower and eggplants.

3 Course Business Set Lunch [$38] Great place to dine with a view here- overlooking esplanade and the merloin. They have a weekly rotating lunch menu at forlino with rather extensive options for each course. Love that the chef has this outlet to get creative and come up with new innovative items! :) First course - Terrina di Fegato Grasso: Foie Gras Terrine, Apple Confit, Marsala Reduction (Supplement $10) Very delicate, love the combination of the aged reduction and the terrible. Wished I had more of that homemade walnut toast to finish up the terrine! Second Course - Ventresca di Tonno: Pan-Seared Tuna Belly, Capsicum Peperonata, Sundried Tomatoes, Capers Rarely take a risk with the fish selection as I am often disappointed but this time, i am glad i went with my guts and took a chance. Was really impressed with the plating here! And boy, they are generous aren’t they? Loved the cook of the tuna belly and that soft yet firm texture. The peperonata and capers worked so well I alternated each segment of tuna with either and at the end succumbed to having it altogether! Third course - Basilico: Basil Gelato, Cocoa Crumble, Lemon Cream, Italian Meringue Looks impressive but I got to admit I’m not always a fan of deconstructing a classic like lemon meringue tart. The Basil gelato is a great palate cleanser though. Love that punchy pesto! Would have been better if it was a sorbet! (Just saying)

Agnello ($48) This lamb loin is so tender and that is no 羊骚味! It looks rare but it is actually okay, for people who love medium rare.

Smoked Kurobuta Pork, Chicory, Persimmon and Juniper sauce Always loved how pork steaks are executed as well as beef steaks in places like this! I liked the smoky flavour of this dish, which came without the oily vibes of its Asia counterpart - the crackling roast pork (which btw, to clarify, is extremely good too). The persimmon purée at the bottom didn’t quite taste like persimmon - pretty light in taste and could pass off as a pumpkin purée? Good dish to have if you’re not having the awe-standing grass fed beef tenderloin!

Grass Fed Beef Tenderloin, Foie Gras, Kale & Truffle Jus Impressive executed beef at medium (minimum expectations for Michelin rated restaurant) and generous portions of foie gras atop each pinkish beef slice. Each ‘set’ comes with crispy kale which are so so so delicious even the non-veggie eating boyfriend finished them (& praised they were good too)! The dish was drizzled with truffle jus - I wished there were more, tho the portion was just nice and in fact, no jus was required since the beef, foie gras & kale were really flavoured on their own.

Great Deal With Burpple Beyond Found this place on Burpple for my dad's birthday, and the food and ambience certainly matched the occasion! The grass fed beef tenderloin and smoked kurobuta pork mains were so tender and flavourful, but we also liked that they had other options for the non-meat lovers. Service was also really attentive, and we really enjoyed the fresh bread and special appetisers they served us. So glad for Burpple Beyond which introduced us to the place and helping us save on the mains so we could afford to try more appetisers :)
