For Affordable Local Breakfast
Located along Jalan Persiaran Teratai in Taman Cempaka, this Malay food stall that has been operating since 1990 serves up nasi lemak and roti as early as 6.30am. The price is incredibly affordable by Johor standards, with a basic Nasi Lemak with no extra toppings going for RM2, and adding an egg and fried chicken will only bring the cost up to RM5, which is a great deal. As for Roti, their Roti Canai it's RM1 a piece, and considering most places charge upwards of RM1.20, you can certainly save a pretty penny here. Drinks are also priced low here, with a hot cup of kopi-o for RM1, this should be your go to breakfast spot if you're in the Setia Tropika or Bandar Baru Uda area. The sad part is that they close at 12pm so no lunch plans at this store, but read on below for more affordable places that are open after lunch.

Affordable Thai Boat Noodle
Where else can you get boat noodles for RM1.90? Amphawa serves up sample sized beef, chicken and Tomyam boat noodles, and you can order as many as you want. In our opinion this is a great way for anyone who has not tried Thai boat noodles (or Thai food in general) to get their feet wet and see if they enjoy the Umami, spicy and slightly sour taste which is usually associated with Thai food.. aside the boat noodles there are a variety of Thai food on the menu, like their Thai shrimp paste rice (RM13.90) that has a spicy kick to it, and desserts like their satisfyingly sweet and creamy milk tea toast (RM6.90).

The Silver ForksPhoto by Silver Fork

Affordable Food with variety
Almost everything here costs below RM10, but don't think that they skimp on quality, as the chef has numerous years of experience working in 5 star hotels across the country and has even served as a cook for many V.I.P's, so you can be confident that the preparation going into the food is done with utmost care. The tagline for Silver Forks is "5 star quality with road side stall price", and to really be convinced, try out their many dishes such as their many fried rice that range from RM6.50 to RM9.50, we would recommend the Nasi Goreng Daging Menjerit which is malay styled fried rice with a hearty serving of grilled beef that has been seasoned to amplify the Umami of the meat. Give their seafood Tom Yam (RM6.50) a go as well, accompanied by the regular seafood you would expect such as prawns and squid, you'll be hard pressed to find cheaper elsewhere.

ibis Styles Johor Iskandar PuteriPhoto by burppler Klay Eats

Affordable Buffet
Located in the Industrial park of Iskandar Puteri (Silc), this newly opened Ibis hotel houses a restaurant on its first floor that offers an affordable buffet for RM22. Sure there are other buffets that go for a lower price, but the value one gets at ibis is incomparable. It's the perfect spot to have a relaxing meal with friends an colleagues, especially since the cocoa and chocolate themed décor and ambiance is so calming. Diners can expect a wide spread from meats such as lamb, beef, and chicken, seafood, such as prawns, fish and sashimi, as well as vegetarian dishes. Desserts, ice cream and drinks are also available, with a selection of hot coffee, tea, infused water, and fresh juices, this really makes it a bargain for the price.

Big FoodPhoto by Big Food

Massive Portions
Not really a budget option, but if you want to pack in the most calories per ringgit, this is definitely the place. As the name suggests, Big Food is all about big portions, and even one item on the menu called the Supreme Grill (RM100), tells you that you cannot do it alone, and by our experience, you'll need at least 4 people to tackle the many cuts of BBQ angus beef ribs, chicken wings, turkey roast, sliced beef, minced beef, peperoni, lamb shoulder, jumbo sausages, salami, chicken bologna, and pot worth of mashed potatoes. If you're not a big eater, it would be wise to bring your significant other along and share a plate, as it is definitely good enough for two. Try out the premium Daging (RM20), which comes with a massive serving of salami, two large slices of grilled beef, a large beef sausage topped with minced beef Bolognese, and a tiny mountain of mashed potatoes with mushroom gravy. If you're into more local flavors, there are also rice and noodle dishes available, which are also as massive as the rest of the menu.
