The Rundown

First opened in Waikiki in 1974, this popular Hawaiian cafe chain is known for its pancakes and omelettes. Its Singapore outpost, which opened in late December, is the brand’s first venture outside of Hawaii and Japan.

The Vibe

The space, located in Plaza Singapura’s new wing, is spacious and bright, and service is cheery, making this a good spot for a girly brunch or a tea-time tête-à-tête (evident in the tables of Japanese housewives dining here on a weekday afternoon). Tables are aplenty, at least for now, and it was easy to get a seat when we strolled in for a late weekday lunch.

What’s Good

Eggs ‘n Things seems to have gotten off to a bit of a rough start, with many less than stellar online reviews about the food. We visited a month after their official opening, and are pleased to share that the kitchen seems to have gotten its game on, dishing out some pretty tasty plates we’d return for when we’re in the vicinity.

They’re known for their omelettes, and while we can find no fault with the fluffy and creamy scrambled eggs in the Ahi (Tuna) Steak & Eggs ($25.90), we weren’t particularly impressed either. The tuna steak though was extremely well cooked and beautifully seasoned, making this a perfect, albeit pricey, low-carb plate (if you skip the rice or toast) for clean eating, high protein days. What we would return for however are their much talked about pancakes. The versions we’ve tasted of late have veered on the bad side of dense, which makes our order of the Pancakes with Fresh Banana, Whipped Cream and Macadamia Nuts ($19.90) particular laudworthy for the light and fluffy texture. The tower of whipped cream is as jaw-droppingly tall as social media posts have painted it to be, but it is airy and cloudlike, with a lovely milky aftertaste. There’s a trio of sauces — maple syrup, guava and coconut — at every table, for drizzling over the pancakes. The maple syrup is a classic, but the creamy coconut added a hint of the tropics to the classic flavour pairing.
