The Rundown
Owned by the same people behind Cantonese restaurant Kia Hiang (in International Plaza), MYO restobar is the sister restaurant serving up similar homey Cantonese dishes, alongside the dim sum that Kia Hiang once served when it was located at Kim Tian.

The Vibe
Despite being pretty traditional in its food offerings, MYO restobar sports a more modern-chic vibe as compared to Kia Hiang — think dark wood, warm lighting and tall windows that let in plenty of natural light, along with a cosy bar counter. It is located right smack in the CBD, and the laid back ambience deems it a suitable spot for lunch with colleagues on days you don’t feel like braving food court crowds. It’s great for early dinners with the family too. Service is not without fault. Our group lunch got rather messy with order mix-ups, but it helps that the owners made sure to treat us well. For that reason, we don’t recommend bringing business associates here, at least until they sort out their service game.

What’s Good
Kia Hiang’s famed Claypot Spring Chicken ($18) is THE signature here and, in our opinion, a must order. Prepared using the exact same recipe, the chicken is wrapped in Chinese cabbage, cooked till extremely tender and comes slicked in a delicious gravy redolent of herbs and chicken essence. As Burppler Muriel A rightly says: “All you need is plain rice to ladle the lip-smacking zhup over and one more tummy to share it with.” You’ll see a similar dish of Organic Chicken Set ($19) as part of the lunch menu that comes with dim sum, veggies and rice, but as tempting as it may be to order it for value, our advice is to stick with the Kia Hiang Claypot Spring Chicken instead, which has our top votes for flavour and shiok-ness.

If you’re up for supplementing your meal with dim sum, the Pan Fried Radish Cake with Housemade XO Sauce ($8) is very good. Expect large cubes of radish cake, seasoned beautifully and cooked till crisp on the edges while still nice and soft within. There is also a popular Chilled Durian Mochi ($3 each) that you can get for $1 if you order it online (instructions listed at the table) — this we didn’t get to try as it ran out towards the end of lunch service, but tell us if you do!
