Hawker Highlights In Singapore: February 2018

From the Burpple community and the helpful reviews they share on the app, here's everything you need to know about Singapore's hawker scene this week!

Pasir Ris Central Hawker Centre

This new two-level food centre in the east houses 42(!!) concepts under one roof – 20 well-loved hawker stalls on the first floor and a playground for 22 new generation hawkers upstairs at FAREGROUND. Leg on over and get bowled over by the $6.50 beef bowl from Tasty Street, $5 burger from The Humble Burger, $5 Chicken and Mushroom Veloute from The Stew House, and even unconventional drinks from Jin Ho Lim Ah. Moscato Royale tea ($3) or Charcoal Latte ($4), anyone?

Visited Food Republic’s flagship outlet in Wisma Atria yet? A refreshed look has recently been unveiled to celebrate its 12th anniversary along with a new tenant line-up. In addition to well-loved favourites, there are six new stalls to try, including established names like Aher Soup, The Original Katong Laksa, Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee and Hao Hokkien Mee.

New Taiwanese coffeeshop stall alert, Ang Mo Kio-ites! Look forward to tucking into comforting signatures like Braised Pork Rice and Braised Platters (think “big intestine wrap small intestine”) right within the Mayflower hood.

Been wanting to get your sweet potato balls fix like Burppler Jasmine Lim (who’s been waiting for the shutters to open for the past year)? Then you’d be pleased to hear that they’ve reopened for business now that the uncle running the stall is feeling better. She adds that the chewy balls are still as good as before!

Ah Lipp Famous Penang Prawn Noodles

Bukit Batok-ians don’t need to go far to sate cravings for Penang food with this relatively new kid on the block. Priced from $4 (for both dry and soup versions), every bowl brims with noodles of your choice, fresh wild sea prawns, fish cake slivers and kangkong in a moat of deep orange crustacean-y soup. The star for Burppler I makan Sg though was the super satisfying Assam Laksa, made using prawn paste sourced from Penang!
