New Restaurants To Check Out This Weekend

It’s the Monday of the first long weekend! And we are in for an extended Monday blues, but fret not! There’s another long weekend coming up this weekend for you to look forward to, and as Malaysians, our favourite pass time will be cafe or restaurant hopping.

Burppler tipsters, readers, friends, and family usually have the same question: Where should I eat right now? Restaurant obsessives want to know what’s new, what’s cool, and where their favourite chefs have landed, there are more restaurants to try than ever. To answer that question, here are Kuala Lumpur’s most exciting new restaurants, all of which are open as of publication time.

VCR Ritche

Serial cafe hoppers and coffee addicts in KL are familiar with VCR. The fact that the organisation is opening its newest and largest branch in May is proof of its enduring popularity. The cafe is located in Ampang Hilir's Ritchie Pavilion and features contemporary furnishings with a natural colour scheme and a mix of eye-catching fittings. Until its formal opening on May 16, 2022, it is only partially open, providing brunch favourites, mains, desserts, and artisan beverages.

Aposto

Aposto is an Italian restaurant in TTDI that serves classics with a twist. Fusion generally entails blending several cuisines, but Aposto is an exception. Yes, it's Italian food, but it's prepared using techniques from various cuisines that Chef Chu has picked up over the years. It's hard to think Aposto KL has only been open for a few months, given the glowing reviews. After dining here, we understand the praises. Chef Chu Wei Sin's Aposto means "it's all good" in Italian. And it is exactly what it says.

The lemon Tree

The Lemon Tree, which debuted in Tropicana Petaling Jaya alongside a clear blue sky, offers tantalising fruits for all to behold, especially breakfast, pastries, and coffee lovers. Breakfast wraps loaded with chicken sausage, organic scrambled eggs, hash browns, and karashi mentaiko; tiramisu cruffins and Biscoff pecan cakes; a piccolo latte and filthy hojicha; all served in a garden glasshouse-style setting ideal for success.

Gai isn't just a cookie-cutter answer to what's already out there. It doesn't try to recreate something we're already very familiar with or comfortable with. Rather, it encourages the people to appreciate nuance, to take each bite slowly, and detect the finer points of Northern Thai cuisine, particularly Lan Na cuisine.

Yellow Brick Road @ The Five

After seven years in Plaza Batai, Yellow Brick Road has relocated to The Five complex, a greenhouse green cafe that continues to serve with heart, intelligence, and boldness. We started off with The fluffy-and-flavorful pancakes transformed into tacos, packed with succulent pulled beef, shiitake mushrooms, kale, cherry tomatoes, Thai-spiced mayo, Parmesan, and parsley, after a healthy helping of hummus with pistachios, pomegranates, chickpeas, and mixed seeds with poached egg, za'atar, and wholemeal sourdough toast. The food is as good as we remember it.

Bocado

Enthusiasts of Spanish cuisine will enjoy a big bite of Bukit Damansara's new Bocado, which features robust tapas like sweetly smoked piquillo peppers stuffed with soft, slow-baked cod brandade; scoop up every moist, scrumptious spoonful of the seafood paella; and get ready to chow down into the succulent 16-hour Josper-cooked Spanish suckling lamb shoulder, served with sides like escalivada and patatas rusticas
