Smokey Cherries 🍒 My drink of choice - The Go(o)dfather ($24+). I didn't order this for the aesthetic, but it is pretty cute - look at the conical flask with a cork popped on top to keep the smoke in! & smokey it is - one whiff & you can tell. Not just because of the peatiness of the Lagavulin 16 Single Malt 😍 A great tribute to its inspiration, The Godfather, it stays true to its roots with Amaretto, but also the excellent addition of Ron Zacapa 23 Rum. With cherry syrup & an actual cherry inside, if you're not a fan of cherry flavours, you should obviously skip this. If you're not a fan of bitter drinks (this one has black walnut bitters, of which the taste is rather distinctive), you should also skip this. But if you're like me & The Godfather is one of your favourite classics, & also holds a special meaning for you, then go for it, you won't be disappointed. Thanks Jekyll & Hyde for the hospitality, & Burpple for the invite! 💕 💳 Accepts credit cards 🌬 Air-conditioned seats only 🍽 Burpple Beyond partner 🖥 Accepts reservations - Quandoo clicking through Shopback for cashback is what I'd do 💦 Water is not chargeable 🙋🏻‍♀️ Service charge applies 🚫 No GST

The Fun Continues Most of their new signature cocktails menu are self-explanatory, but Beauty in a Cup ($22+, foreground) required some explanation by friendly bartender, Mike. "An Ode to Chrysanthemum Tea", it says - the drink really does do this statement justice, alluding to the Chrysanthemum-infused gin. It is hella tasty & really reminiscent of Chrysanthemum tea. What needed explanation was the "secret beauty syrup" - a concoction of lotus seeds, wolfberries, & snow fungus reduced to a gelatinous consistency. I hope I got that right 😂 This is a great cocktail that is fragrant but not sweet. I'm loving it 😍 I don't need beauty sleep after drinking this, I can sleep when I'm dead. In the background: Spice My Monkey Up ($22+) is one of their more popular drinks, inspired by one of my favourites, the Whiskey Sour. Monkey Shoulder Blended Scotch, lemon & honey syrup. Topped off with a ginger foam that adds a nice spicyness to the drink.

Easy & Therefore Possibly Dangerous There are options for those who wish to have something lighter & refreshing on the palate - Lady in Red ($20+) uses a base of raspberry-infused vodka with lychee liqueur; the sweetness of which, together with the rose syrup, is balanced with lemon juice. This goes down pretty easy, especially for those who love fruity & sweet drinks - so be careful. Comes with a psychedelic "ice cube" that changes colours every second - fairly difficult to photograph 🤯 Thanks Jekyll & Hyde for the hospitality, & Burpple for the invite!

Are you crazy over garlic? If yes, you definitely need to visit Mad for Garlic, the world's largest garlic themed restaurant from Korea. Revolving around the concept of garlic, it focus its entire menu on serving classic Italian cuisine including desserts, with garlic as a key ingredient. Here are some of their new items on the menu; Wild Mushroom Steak ($38++) Pan-seared tenderloin steak topped with wild mushrooms and porcini cream on a bed of herb mashed potatoes. Spinach Alfredo Pizza ($23++) Thin crust pizza topped with Alfredo sauce, chicken breast, spinach, bacon and cherry tomatoes. Meringue Risotto ($25++) Spicy shredded beef jalapeño risotto topped with meringue cream and fresh egg yolk. Garlic Lasagna ($24++) Roll stuffed with Ragu and Ricotta cheese and baked to perfection. Served with homemade Aioli sauce. Prosciutto Risotto ($25++) Creamy risotto with Prosciutto (parma ham), herbs, spring onion and garlic. Garlic Apple Crumble a-la-mode ($14++) Warm apple crumble ensemble with garlic compote. Served with a scoop of Haagen-dazs ice cream. It was definitely an eye opener on what difference that garlic can do to dishes, especially for the Garlic Apple Crumble. With over 40 restaurants in Korea, I can say that the Koreans really love garlic! Thanks @singaporefoodlisting for the invitation and @madforgarlicsg for having us.

Garlic Sizzling Rice One of the best sellers at Mad For Garlic and I totally see why. This is the second time I’m back here and I already KNEW I was going to reorder this while walking to the restaurant. This is garlic fried rice on steroids as it comes packed with aromatic crispy garlic, juicy bacon, capsicum, leek and onions (which I didn’t mind in this case as they were nicely cooked on the hot plate!). There’s a little bit of creamy sauce drizzled on top of the dish for even more oomph and to keep the dish from being too dry. With such explosive flavours in the rice, I barely noticed the taste of the sauce. I’d recommend the Garlic Sizzling Rice to anyone who likes garlic and fried rice. This is a dish I’d keep reordering and it’ll be a challenge to review the other rice dishes on their menu when I’ve already had a taste of this winner.

Ever seen pork ribs done this way? I was on a Burrple Eat-up for their new menu, and being my first time here at this restaurant, I'm very surprised by the standards of this restaurant located in humble katong. First thing first, their ambience is great to have a chill dinner here with your friends, as they have soft lightings, chill music, and of course, we-bare-bears to hug. Food wise, their plating skills are superb. Each dish arrived are beautiful and insta-worthy. Some of the new dishes that we tried were the Pork Ribs ($20) and the Yuzu Butterfly Chicken ($18). The Yuzu Butterfly was perfect, as even the chicken breast was moist and flavourful. The Yuzu touch lifted the dish to a new level due to its citrusy profile. The Pork Ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender, but the batter was a tad too thick. Not that it taste really floury, but it's just filling. With that aside I believe this dish can be their speciality, as the flambé makes it extra insta-worthy and its succulent ribs are great for as well. In a nutshell, The Communal Place has great food, great ambience, and has sharing dishes for a family. Can't wait to bring my friends here for dinner and drinks!

Miso Salmon Got the miso salmon and boy, was I impressed by the creaminess of the mashed potato. It was whipped perfectly and very creamy. The salmon was a wee bit overcooked for my liking but the sauce made up for it. Overall, a good place to catch up with its cozy ambience and good service. //bonus: complimentary welcome drink was served to us as well!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️

What I had in my hot pot? I’ve ordered Korean kimchi soup and requested for less chilli. A marriage of kimchi and chicken soup sounds good! The service crew was attentive and offered to add more chicken soup on my visit when the soup is running low. Did I saw wagyu chunk eye roll? Nom noms! The tender and marbled Wagyu beef simply do wonders to our hot pot. I’ve also noticed that the meat is freshly sliced upon order on our visit. . Read on foodgem.sg/food/chinese/city-hot-pot .
