Kovan has 2 excellent stalls and each have their strengths. This one is the one that my wife prefers. The chilli packs a punch top with lots of pork lard. Fishball, vegetable ball, meat ball, minced pork, teochew her keow, mushroom, etc. Taste is rich and flavorful. Always a pleasure to eat! It's among the best!
This is the stall that opens early in the morning. I am more familiar with this stall. I have not eaten in for years and have also forgotten the taste. Today, I decided to give it a try. The gravy had nothing special, the noodles were serve with egg, fish cake, a little shredded meat and a little ngoh hiang. I found the taste average at best and would certainly prefer the other stall that opens late.
One of the two famous Wanton Mee at Kovan Food Centre, affectionately known as 57. Their noodles are served with a spicy and sour chilli tomato sauce. The Char Siew is red and not charred, not my preferred kind, the soup and wanton taste peppery and flavored. It used to be my favorite stall but I found better ones. It is however unique in its own way and definitely worth a try.
Prawn Mee by Penang Kitchen - Being the new kid in this hawker centre, it is less crowded than the other store. The dry version has a nice chilli to match, there were 2 prawns with shells, some pork ribs and a soup that had too much fried onions in there. It is good enough for me to eat it again but would probably not make a special trip there just to eat it. Just above average for me.
