Ordered the Nasi Briyani Chicken from the Indian Food stall (plus papadum $6.5), Ice Lemon Tea ($1.5), and take away snacks (tausa pao, egg tart, curry puff). The nasi briyani portion is huge, can actually share for 2 person. The rice is a bit dry and chicken is just ok, but tender. The okra curry is very nice. Please note that it's great to eat here to save budget from overpriced airport resto, but don't expect too much on the food. Previously I tried the YTF here and it was also not bad.
Had the chicken chop and chicken wings. The uncle really cut those with scissors and top it on the rice. Added with lots of curry veggie and 2 kinds of curry sauce. Don't really know what's the difference but one tastes a bit sweet and the other a bit spicy. The curry itself is not that thick but quite nice. I regretted that I don't order the prawn fritters. It looks good btw. The whole meal is very satisfying, kinda too big portion for me. But it's totally recommended if you want something fulfilling for supper.
When it comes to Orh Luak, I think it's either you like it or hate it. I haven't find a good orh luak before but when I had this one at Old Airport Rd, it's so good. The taste of wok hei is what makes it stands out. The oysters are fresh, plump and no fishy smell at all. In one portion there are more than 5 pieces of oysters and the size is quite big. You should also try the sambal, spicy but slightly sour. So good! Will be back again.
If you're into something soupy, warm, and fulfilling for breakfast, try the Bai Nian Niang Yong Tau Foo at Albert Centre. Located just behind the touristy Bugis street / market. The YTF is already in a set (you can only cheese with our without bitter gourd). In one bowl they give white beehoon (you can ask for extra), the prawn meatball, minced meat, fish cake, and tofu. The soup might look clear but it is actually loads with savory, peppery, a bit sweet flavour. So satisfying!
One of my favorite snacks in Maxwell hawker centre. They sell it at $2/pcs and always made fresh on the spot. The cake is crispy (my favorite is the rim of the circle) with juicy oyster and shrimp fillings. Try to eat it with the chilli. Best eaten while it's hot. Btw: it's Anthony Bourdain approved ๐
Was very curious about A Noodle Story because of the crazy hype in Instagram. Went there yesterday and tried the small portion. All portion includes dry ramen, charsiu, shrimp wonton, fried noodle prawn, onsen egg, spring onion and the red crispy topping (not sure what it is). First try: WOW! No wonder the queue is always long. The wonton is full of big and juicy shrimp, the onsen egg is perfect (i thought it's going to taste weird but no it's totally delicious), and the ramen is thin but springy and absorb all the savory and slightly sweet sauce. And i love that they top it with the crunchy fried noodle prawn. It's totally a complete meal and worth the wait. Plus, this is actually a young gen hawker..so kudos to them!
This is my first time having breakfast in Dong Po Colonial Cafe. Ordered Set F (Bostock & Kopi) plus Chocolate Long Cup. The Kopi is quite strong but very good! Try dipping the long cup into the coffee, makes the taste even better for the kopi and long cup. The Bostock really amazing. Crispy, buttery with the fragrant almond flakes. Get ready to queue especially on Saturday morning.
