At Ottoman Kebab, you're in the good hands of head chef Ali Kose - a Turkish native and the former sous chef at Gordon Ramsay's Michelin-starred restaurant, Maze. A telling sign of a good Turkish restaurant is the Homous, which Ottoman has nailed. Gratifyingly creamy with a balance of tahini, lime juice and garlic, mop it all up with the pillowy homemade Pide Flat Bread. Go for the Iskender Mutton Kebab: minced mutton patties grilled and slathered with a rich sauce of sundried tomatoes, celery, carrots, shallots and dried mint. Don't leave without trying the wildly popular Kunefe - a sweet and buttery pastry filled with goat's cheese, drizzled with sugar syrup, and topped with crushed pistachios.

At the end of dinner we were served with Turkish Coffee, either with or without milk. Chef Ali then told us it’s a tradition to do coffee cup readings after drinking the coffee as Turkish coffee is served with the coffee grinds in the cup! And yes it does get a little gluggy at the end and you end up drinking lot of coffee grind.

To have your fortune told, you drink your coffee the tip your cup upside down onto the saucer, then wait for a few minutes till the cup cools down. Chef Ali’s wife kindly gave us some readings from the cup, like: easy going, you’re in a dark stage but brightness is on the way, someone is waiting for you *dagger stab heart*

The next step is to make a wish, as she tips the grinds from the saucer back into the cup and flips to see the back. I think the coffee droplet reaching the base rim meant that our wish was going to come true. They asked if I changed my wish half way in. I did >.< apparently that’s the second droplet to the left. I was wishing a personal wish then I thought how selfish of myself and was thinking I’ll wish something for my family. So which will come true?! =\ This was the most fun during the night. Chef Ali is super jovial and jokes so much with his wife it’s very endearing. Say hi to him if you’re dining at Ottoman Kebab & Grill!
