The highlight was the mentaiko mac and cheese which was amazing!! it’s only offered as a side and not main dish, but it’s definitely as filling as a main. The prawns are super fresh too and overall, super yummy if you’re a mentaiko lover.

The truffle mash was pretty disappointing, tasting just like normal mash potato with a little hint of truffle. Furthermore, it wasn’t really good mashed potato even if you minus the truffle taste. It was very average or if anything, below average.

Xing Li Cooked Food’s orh luak has earned so many accolades from so many different people over the years despite the long wait times. That can only mean one thing. It means that it’s time to investigate those claims and see if Xing Li is the real deal, or if it’s just another case of “thank u, next”.

Long lines at the stall? Oh yeah, most definitely. That’s mainly due to the fact that the old proprietor has a tiny little flat wok that’s physically incapable of cooking up more than four portions at a time, and his practice of jumping on the gas valve to close it off and take his orh luak off the heat every few seconds.

With that much attention to detail given to frying up the fried oyster, I was expecting orh jian so indescribably indulgent that it could bend reality, but it fell flat on its face with a splat, just like the orh jian itself. If you like your fried oyster extra wet and gooey, boy you are in for a treat.

However, if you like it perfectly balanced as all things should be with the gooey goodness of the fried starch balanced out with an abundance of delightfully crispy chunks, you might feel somewhat cheated. I definitely felt that way despite the fried oyster being rather redolent and loaded with dazzling deliciousness.

But, there is salvation for this plate of orh luak. I‘m Mr Brightside as I always try to look on the bright side of food, and Xing Li’s orh luak definitely has quite a few redeeming factors. First of all, the $6 portion had a most agreeable abundance of plump, juicy oversized oysters hidden beneath the gooey globs of starch.

Secondly, their zingy, garlicky chili might easily be the best orh jian chili in Singapore. A good amount of heat, a delightful dose of garlic, a bit of acidity to break up the richness of the orh jian, and a solid smattering of spicy sapidity makes this chili the GOAT of chili sauces.

If Xing Li wishes to compete with the likes of Ah Chuan for the title of Singapore’s Orh Luak Overlord, then he must make his orh luak crispy again. A small price to pay for salvation.

I love this mala! It has a larger variety of food than other mala places and they even have udon. Love udon with mala but i wouldn’t recommend taking too much udon because it’s very filling as compared to maggi/glass noodles. A little chewiness with mala is good enough! It also wasn’t too dry unlike many places and price wise, very friendly!! We ordered 3 portions and it amounted to $25. Super recommend!

Praffles • Prata + Waffles | A waffle-like treat with a crispy prata texture
After hearing so many reviews and people recommending Praffles, i couldn’t wait to try them. I got the truffle cheese ($10.9) and rainbow praffles ($8.9)

I was IN LOVE with the truffle cheese praffles! there was popcorn chicken, turkey bacon, sausage, cheese and it was super super yummy! everything you would typically eat with your prata. However, i didn’t enjoy the rainbow one as much. it was ice cream and corn flakes together with the praffles. It doesn’t feel as yummy to me because i don’t like the idea of prata going along with dessert.

Overall, it was a yummy experience for people who like the sweet and savoury combined of prata and waffles

Tried Milksha at Suntec and it was really good! I got the oolong milk tea latte while my friend got the matcha milk. The queue wasn’t too bad, average waiting time. The milk tea latte had a nice, well brewed oolong tea taste and the matcha milk was richer and tastier than normal matcha.

Saw a super long queue at the store and already heard from a friend the bubble tea here is amazing. Their Dong Dong Oolong Fresh Milk Tea won the ITQI award - the michelin star of bubble tea. So of course I was expecting a lot. But after a long 45 mins wait, i really didn’t think it was that amazing. Yes, their drink had a very rich tea taste which can’t be found in many other bbtea outlets but other than that, there was nothing about it that made it extra yummy than other drinks. And also, the pearls weren’t super nice. It was as though it was abit over cooked. Have to give it a plus point for the aesthetics and packaging though

Have been going to Wang Jiao Ban Mian for the best Dry Ban Mian ($4). The flavour of the sauces really complement each other to bring the best taste out of the dish. The mincedpork is not too hard and just right and the egg is also not completely cooked so that it is runny, just the way I like it

Have eaten here a couple of times and it’s honestly not amazing. It was really cheap - $10 for 2 pax but it was more towards the dry side. However, the taste was definitely there. It was rich and full of flavour
(Just a heads up, the spiciness level is slightly more spicy than other places so you might wna level down for this!)

I love the mochi ice cream here. It is basically ice cream coated with a layer of soft chewy mochi and you can choose from a variety of flavours. My favourite is melon and vanilla!

This is amazing and it’s the spicy smoked duck breast and spicy pork cheese toast roll with spicy sauce! it’s really unique because it is crunchy and feels like you’re eating a yummy ‘unhealthy’ snack. ($9)
