The best ramen I've had so far outside of Japan... I will have the non spicy flavour next time because the pepper started becoming a little too much near the end of the bowl - I really wanted to drink the soup! Come here with an empty stomach, otherwise it will seem too heavy.

Decided to try a new ice cream place and was pleasantly surprised by the pulut Hiram ice cream. I also liked the pear flavour that I had (a sorbet).

The branch at count is indeed spacious with a nice breeze coming through the patio. With a perfect shade from the adjacent building, it was not too suffocating to sit outdoors at this quaint cafe. The tandoori we had was really juicy and tender, while the pasta we had erred on the side of too creamy (I think it was a spicy pasta, Asian flavour, can't remember the exact name)

The spruce burger really satisfied my burger craving. The bun was buttery but soft, meat was done JUST AS I ASKED - medium ☺️ fries are on the soft side as most thick fries are. Another dish worth a mention - the caesar salad here is great!

Lola's cafe is a perfect getaway from the hoodiness of kovan food. The lychee rose water cake was light and not too sweet- perfect for an afternoon pick me up. The apple cake was a bit too sweet and cinnamon-y for my liking. Honey paprika wings are fabulous, as was the matcha latte I had- creamy with a strong matcha flavour. Will be back to try their main course dishes and brunch. It's a pity they are so far from me!

Recommended: beef noodles, salt and pepper chicken, pork belly with garlic sauce, eggplant with pork floss, bubble tea, and hot grass jelly dessert. Average: minced pork rice. To try: oyster noodles and oh chien.

This drink, aptly named the Sojurita ($28) is a soju based cocktail topped with an inverted bottle of beer (of your choice). The cocktail had a strong Yuzu flavour which made the drink refreshing and sweet, pairing really well with the salty and flavorful food choices. The Joo wings were also very good! I just found out they also serve lunch and dinner, and that the chef is korean! Will definitely be back to try the food. It's an affordable place to chill and drink, with a great atmosphere - music is not TOO loud, lights are not TOO dim.

I was excited to visit w39 because I saw the iconic blue and yellow chairs in pictures online. Needless to say, the cafe was such a cute place - there were those colorful chairs, hipster decorations all around, bright simple patterns on the counter. What a gem! We had the cake set which was underwhelming (both the coffee and cake) but the Duck Confit is worth a mention, as it was tender, well marinated and almost addicting. Will be back to try the other mains, perhaps catch their weekday lunch set to be cost-conservative. 😝

Mooi chin serves hainanese food as well as other western dishes. It's an old fashioned hotel restaurant setting, with surprisingly good food! Don't be fooled by the lack of diners in the restaurant - it's definitely worth a visit! (the restaurant is 80 years old!) The highlight for me was the Fried Chicken with Soya Bean Sauce, which was crunchy but not too salty/sweet with the dark soya sauce. Come here if you're in Bugis and are looking for a quieter place to eat with no queue! (Price: ~$50 for 3 pax)

Aptly named "Biang Biang" noodles (presumably after the sound of hitting the strip of noodle against the table), this dish was super yummy! It came with a small dish of meat sauce which I decided to pour into the bowl and mix it together with the noodle, and was slightly spicy due to the chili that was already mixed with the noodles. The noodle was chewy and thick, and last but not least the egg was soft boiled, with the yolk still slightly soft and runny. I would also recommend the pan fried dumplings and the noodles with onion oil and pan-fried shredded duck. Super appetizing and definitely affordable for a restaurant on Orchard road ($33 for 2 pax - 3 dishes + drinks). Don't forget to check out their deal on pickatSG!

The sweet and sour fish at 黑社會 was delicious! There were chopped melons instead of the usual pineapple as garnishes, and there was not an overwhelming amount of red and green peppers as is normally found in sweet and sour dishes. The fish is deep fried with batter but is not too oily. Last but not least, if you visit this restaurant on sun-thurs after 5:30 pm, they have a menu featuring dishes that cost only s$8.80 (including this dish!)

The roasted chicken at the coastal settlement was good, but not mind blowing. Good points- it's worth the price (good sized 1/2 chicken) and pretty tasty. I would not drive from west to east just to have this dish though. I would recommend this place for medium sized groups looking for a place with a chill vibe, cosy decorations and solid western food (I did not try their Singaporean/asian dishes)!
