$10.90 is too low a price for how awesome this is: lightly seared salmon with a generous amount of mentaiko (spicy pollock roe) cream atop a rich serving of rice seasoned with soy and tiny fish roe. A grand seal of approval and the highest recommendation I'll give ever for cost: quality ratio. Do try this!

Come here for the food, really. Perfect poached eggs that burst with yolk and flavor ontop of shredded ham, add the side of bacon ($3) to mop up the yolky mess after devouring.

This classy yet unassuming restaurant in Wisma's Japanese food town wowed me with it's quality service and pretty good food. Pictured is the demiglace katsudon ($25++) with dashi soup (bonito flakes boiled in water) and a surprising appitizer of radish and greens on a bed of jellified shoyu.

While it is only above average for Singapore standards; in my travels, I never had such good dashi soup before. It's incredibly smoky yet refreshing aftertaste compliments the end of the meal.

Hidden away in a corner of Ngee Ann city, this hidden cafe deserves your attention with it's selection of Japanese inspired food.

For $14.80, the double decker tonkatsu sandwich is a huge undertaking. Built with 2 crunchy toasts, slightly spicy mustard, and 2 crispy breaded pork katsu, it is wonderful if massive, even for a big eater like me.

The Fried Egg Power ($12) is comfort breakfast food and a good start of the day. With tomatoes, fried egg, crispy bacon bits, mash taters, topped with cheddar and their slightly spicy mayo sauce, my one and only complaint is the price.

Oddly enough, their coffee (Iced Black, $5), on the wee sour side, pairs nicely with the tangy taste this sandwich brings.

Fixing my craving for spaghetti, I finally visited Shio and Pepe after months of sidetracking.

Fancy on first impression, the mentaiko spice is nicely paired with the cream pasta, mixed with bacon bits that, while isn't mind blowing, is decent and definitely above average as pasta.

The other dishes of pizza hamburg and omurice varieties seem interesting, and I shall come back to try another.

A great brunch dish that is just superb. The stars of the dish: grilled potatoes, achieve a fine balance with the bacon caramelized with onions. Ontop of a bed of mash potatoes, it is a hearty meal that's smart yet welcoming. A dish I will come back to eat.

The Big breakfast, available on their brunch menu, is superior to other offerings from other cafes. Perfectly sauteed mushrooms paired with pork belly and tomatoes, a homemade bread topped with egg completed this sumptuous meal. ($19) I wished there were more vegetables, but I can sing nothing but praises for this.

This Cafe's chill ambience with it's superior menu, has won a loyal, returning customer.

To make a real good filtered coffee is by no means an easy feat. The Gishubi beans from Africa is fruity yet light and easy, absent is the astringency of most local coffees, making this a welcoming, pleasant coffee.

A gimmicky cafe that serves dark, not too sweet chocolate, is as only as good as the quality of the drinks it serves.

Their chocolate cube hazelnut latte is served with frozen chocolate hazelnut cubes, a bottle of warm milk and an espresso shot. While definitely fresh, it has a rich chocolate bite that roughens the drink. It isn't my jam, but it's a new experience of coffee that isn't made from flavoured syrup.

For the asking price of below $7 for any of their dishes, this small kitchen provides fancy, delicious French fusion cuisine on a budget.

Their weekly specials (like the chicken wrapped with smoked bacon on a bed of mash infused with tomato and bell peppers) are a blast to try out, though you may have to order something else after as portions are just shy of just right.
