This broth is brimming with the goodness of collagen. It’s creamy and best eaten hot, otherwise the top layer will start coagulating. I ordered the chicken noodle set which also comes with veg and a glorious onsen egg. Spy tip: Chili padi is also served at a nominal add on charge.

Spy Tip: Order the beef satay! It’s the best of the lot. Chicken is only meh. Remember to ask for more gravy.

If u are at a loss what to order, just stick to the grilled squid, sambal eggplant and yellow rice. Guaranteed to induce glorious food coma thereafter. The satay also deserves special mention for its smoky charred crust. Ironically, the deep fried signature fish dish failed to excite.

Ordered this at the recommendation of my server. Unfortunately, whilst well plated, the meat turned out to be too dry. Will not order this again. Service is haphazard- it took us quite awhile to catch the attention of a service staff and the restaurant was not even half full. Spy tip: Entertainer app offers one for one mains.

The swanky ambience and chirpy servers are highly endearing. Not forgetting $1 oysters every Thursday (cheap but mediocre). Unfortunately, the rest of the food we ordered -which is quite a lot, fell short. These include the pork chops, foie gras, steak and creamed spinach. I’ll be happy to return next time...but only for drinks and finger food.

Am not a big fan of beef noodles but Hock Lam serves one of the best versions in town. They are super generous with their beef balls too...I counted 8! (And I’m not complaining 😜)

Ordered a $30+ platter for 2-3 pax. It was studded with luscious sticks of charred chicken wings, stuffed mushrooms, tomatoes wrapped in bacon, prawns meshed with shiso leaves as well as cheesy pork skewers. My only grouse is the over zealous use of teriyaki sauce in some skewers, which can get cloying after awhile. If u are looking for a yakitori meal that offers excellent value, this is it. However, if u seek an authentic experience, go for the real Mc coy at one of those smoky Japanese run joints in Cuppage plaza or Robertson Quay (Shunjuu being my favorite).

Cakes at The Providore. Banish the grind of Raffles Place and nibble a sweet treat over coffee before rejoining the rat race. A satisfying but slightly over priced treat.

At $70, you get varied course of sushi, miso soup and a small scoop of ice cream with cheesecake. The items were reasonably fresh and offered decent value but nothing spectacular. I still felt hungry after that. Pictured here is the nicest sushi in the set I had- amago.

The best daifuku I’ve eaten in my life! Fresh, balanced and luscious with a giant strawberry encased within.

Left or right? Either way, it’s a heyday for wanton mee fanatics like me. Naturally we made a beeline for the air conditioned one. Loved the lard perfumed noodles, the Unami dumplings and that killer chili. Beware! They don’t have tissue paper to dab those unglamorous tears away! Luckily, I came prepared with a huge box of tissue.

A lovely surprise on a rainy day. Friendly staff, scrumptious pizza, $5 fries and desserts with a twist. Best of all, it extends out into the beach so adults can relax while the kids frolick in the sand/sea.
