Hidden within the OUE Link walkway closer to the Fullerton exit, you'll find a buzzy salad stop turning out hearty bowls of Mexican-inspired salads. The hole-in-the-wall shop has a row of counter seats for dining in, but most prefer to takeaway (at no extra cost) instead. There are three sizes available — Petite ($8.90) comes with one protein, Standard ($11.90) with two and Wholesome ($17.90) with three proteins, guacamole, chia seeds and chips. Each bowl comes with a base (cilantro red rice, sesame pasta or lettuce), five fixed toppings (salsa, grilled peppers, black beans, fresh corn and grated cheese) and a choice of sauce. Zoom in on the flavourful Pulled Pork and the spicy Chilli Beef as your proteins and skip the sauces — the salads are tasty on their own. Unless you're getting the Wholesome which comes loaded with not one, but two scoops of guacamole, you must add on their super smooth and creamy Signature Guacamole ($2) to complete your salad. Pro tip: Swing by during off peak hours (10.30am-11.55am, 3.30pm-5.30pm) and enjoy $1 off all bowls and burritos!

The key thing that takes a salad from good to amazing is the quality and freshness of the produce. As the office crowds that flock here daily will testify, this riverfront joint preps every single one of its ingredients really well, offering a foolproof blueprint for DIY salads. Unlike many salad joints that charge extra, The Salad Shop offers a baby spinach base at no extra cost. With your preferred salad base and six toppings (our favourite are the beetroot and seeds), the basic Rabbit Size ($8) is more than enough for modest appetites. For something more substantial, choose to add on a protein option ($3) — these include baked falafel, roasted striploin beef and smoked duck, among many other perfectly cooked choices. Trust us, this will keep you satiated till dinner time.

What started out as a single takeaway stall in the basement of Chevron House is now a chain salad stop for office workers in the CBD, with two other outlets in Republic Plaza and The Sail. The Chevron House outlet remains the same as we remembered it to be, with its signature crispy skin Salmon (add $2) as its best-selling protein, while Republic Plaza dishes out more Asian-influenced items like Sukiyaki Beef (add $1.50), Peppered Smoked Duck (add $1.50) and the well-marinated Lemongrass Chicken Thigh. We are told by the staff that the salad offerings at The Sail is similar to the one at Chevron House. Each box comes with one carb, three toppings, one dressing and your choice of protein ($9.90 for one protein, $12.90 for two, $15.90 for three). We like how crazy hearty the salads are, and appreciate that they offer more unique bases like Barley Rice and Sweet Potatoes. Portions are generous, prices are reasonable and the quality is consistently good, making this a go-to spot for fitspos in the area. Pro tip: Consider sharing a medium-sized salad with a colleague, or save half for dinner!

This intimate spot hidden in The Grandstand may be slightly out of the way, but if you're after excellent Italian cuisine, making a trip down will more than satisfy. The ambience here sets the tone for a lovely dinner date. Start off with the freshly made Ciabatta Bread ($6.50), served warm with a pesto-like dip — warning: very addictive. The pastas here will leave you begging for more, especially the ever-popular signature Squid Ink Fettuccine with Crabmeat in Creamy Tomato Sauce ($29.90), and the Linguine Aglio Olio ai Fruitti De Mare ($28.50) studded with smoky seafood and whole-roasted garlic cloves. For dessert, you can't go wrong with the Tiramisu ($13.80) or Stracciatella ($15.50). You and your date will be all smiles when you leave.

By the Les Amis group is Peperoni Pizzeria's new concept, The Pizza Collective. While there are a few signature pizzas on the menu like the awesome Rendang Power, Pig-na Colada and Kim-ky (kimchi and luncheon meat, anybody?), it's waaay more fun to create your own — think a Subway-esque process of building your own pizzas. Choose from an unlimited number of toppings, from over 28 ingredients and five sauces, to churn out the pizza of your dreams for just $12! Toppings range from smoked chicken breast to roast pork, kimchi to capers. Aside from savoury options, TPC features a couple of dessert pizzas, namely Monkey Business ($12), a combination of banana, Nutella drizzle, and almond flakes that can't go wrong, and Apple of My Eye ($12), essentially an apple pie, but disguised as a pizza. This is the kinda place for those who want to have fun with their food, certainly not for pizza purists! Come for a fun date, or a night out with picky friends. ;)

This gem of a restaurant at Kandahar Street dishing out superb pizzas and pastas is surprisingly owned and helmed by a Singaporean. Expect rustic Neapolitan-style pizzas made with imported Italian flour, topped with homemade tomato sauce and loaded with fresh, quality ingredients. Baked in a massive wood-fired oven suspended from the ceiling (it's quite a sight to behold), the pies sport a remarkably spotted crust and are extremely flavourful. Be sure to start off with the Burratina Cicheti ($29), "a mass of pure indulgence being indecently creamy and lava-like in the middle", according to Tastemaker Veronica Phua. For pasta, the Pappardelle Al Ragu ($26) will more than meet the mark. The Bismark Pizza ($23) will have those who love soft runny eggs swooning over it. Save stomach space for the Salted-Chocolate ($12.50), a dreamy molten chocolate lava cake served with vanilla gelato.

This one-year-old salad bar located at One Raffles Place serves protein-rich salads that have been attracting a strong crowd, with long, snaking queues come lunch hour. The menu is straightforward — choose from three sizes, the Regular (one protein, $12), Large (two proteins, $15) and the Beast (three proteins, $18). All salads come with one complex carb, three toppings and one dressing. Standout proteins include their super-tender chicken breast and the lovingly grilled sirloin steak (additional $1, totally worth it). Don't miss the complex carb of sweet potato or brown rice, or the wobbly sous-vide egg! Grab the ginger ponzu sauce for dipping your proteins or drenching that lovely brown rice in. Wash it all down with coconut water from Cocoloco or freshly pressed juices from Gorilla Press. Pro tip: Come here with a friend and share the Beast, making it just $9 for double the fun ;)

Eating clean doesn't always have to cost a bomb. This no frills, unassuming salad bar in the heart of the CBD dishes out salad bowls under $6 (prices range from $4.90-$5.90 depending on the outlet) — perfect for penny-pinching days! Apart from the standard serving of mixed mesclun leaves, choose five toppings and one salad dressing to complete your bowl. Our favourites include soba, firm tofu, sautéed mixed mushrooms, walnuts and croutons (not the healthiest, but they taste so good!). The hardest part of building your own salad here is probably choosing the dressing — there are 16 to select from! There are the usual suspects like caesar and balsamic vinaigrette, alongside more unique flavours like Thai lemongrass with chilli and wasabi mayo. Treat yourself to a premium topping (additional $1 to $2) like Tuna or Rosemary Chicken Breast if you fancy a protein in your bowl. Pro tip: There's also an outlet at Westgate which opens daily, so westies can adopt a healthy diet all week long!
