Because I had missed this on my last trip—the wait was at least an hour but we had a flight to catch— it was the first place we zoomed to once we landed in Ipoh yesterday.

I swear there is something about the water in this Malaysian town that besides enabling “towgay” (beansprouts) to grow into beautifully obese and crunchy specimens, is able to render all rice noodles and the like, unusually smooth and soft. Like this “chee cheong fun” sold from a mobile food cart parked within the compound of a private house. You need to obtain a number and wait to be called before you can place your order. Patience is key as they take time to prepare each plate. Chopped into fine strips and splashed with assorted sauces, one small serving costs RM2.50 while the big goes for RM3.50. Feel free to add on a few pieces of their “yong tau fu” too if you fancy some protein with your “chee cheong fun”.

I was not kidding when I describe this place as elusive because it is open for only four days a week (Mon, Tues, Thur, Fri) and for a few hours each time (from 12.30pm to 4pm). Therefore, some effort is required if you wish to try their food.
