One of the dining establishments that had left quite a mark in the Singapore F&B scene in recent years would be that of Queic by Olivia — these folks would probably not need much of an introduction these days but in case one still requires it, these folks are actually by the same people behind Olivia Restaurant & Lounge that is situated at Keong Saik Road. Best known for their Olivia’s Creamy Homemade Cheesecake, Queic by Olivia is a concept that can be described as an extension of the Olivia Restaurant & Lounge specialising in the Olivia’s Creamy Homemade Cheesecake. The very first location of Queic by Olivia is situated along Kreta Ayer Road not too far away from Olivia Restaurant & Lounge, though these folks had recently opened a second outlet that is located in the basement of Scott’s Square taking over the former premises of the now-defunct outlet of Maison Kayser in the shopping gallery. Unlike the location at Kreta Ayer, the decor of the space is less elaborate, though still on-point with the use of yellow, maroon and blue elements that forms part of Queic by Olivia’s branding. Patrons can expect the same offerings from their Kreta Ayer location being made available at the Scott’s Square outlet – think a line-up of different cheesecakes that can be paired alongside beverages such as espresso-based specialty coffee, tea, Kombucha, soft drinks and also a selection of homemade drinks as well.

Having visited Queic by Olivia quite a number of times, we are pretty familiar with their Basque Burnt Cheesecake slice — that being said, we have always been pretty curious about their other cakes that form part of the Cheesecake Board line-up; this forms the basis on our choice of cheesecakes to go for during our visit made to their newest location at Scott’s Square. With four (4) different types of cheesecakes being offered as part of their Cheesecake Board line-up which comprises of the Brie, Gruyère, Valencay, and Stilton, we went for the Valencay and Stilton — both being items that we had yet to try at Queic by Olivia thus far. The Stilton Cheesecake is a cheesecake that features blue cheese; all of the cheesecakes that are listed in the Cheesecake Board section of the menu are also served with sable cookies and cherry jam served on the side. With the aesthetic of the Stilton Cheesecake being styled almost in the same format as how one would expect a wedge of blue cheese to look whilst shopping at the supermarket, the browned sides of the Stilton Cheesecake is a layer of white chocolate that seems to have been infused with a bit of caramel that comes with a hint of sweetness. That sweetness is very much well-needed and paired well with the Stilton Cheesecake — those whom have tried the Basque Burnt Cheesecake slice from Queic by Olivia would likely be familiar with how these folks love to emphasise on the pungent notes of the cheese that they use for their cheesecake. Whilst carrying a deep tang that one would associate with the fermentation process of blue cheese, the notes of blue cheese here ie rather nuanced; rounded off nicely with the sweetness of the milk chocolate elements. In retrospect, the Valençay Cheesecake featured a more full-bodied notes of pungent cheese — the Valençay Cheesecake being a creation that features goat cheese. One that would likely take the heart for those whom love heavy-tasting cheese, this can get rather intimidating for the faint-hearted; even the milk chocolate layer on the exterior doesn’t quite help with the funk from the goat cheese itself.

We did like how Queic by Olivia serves their cheesecake from their Cheesecake Board line-up h just like how it would be on a cheeseboard that is served at a fine dining establishment — the sable cookies giving a buttery fragrance and a slight sweetness while the cherry jam adds a zippiness that cuts through the cheesiness aptly. During our visit, we had also went for the Spiced Vanilla Lemonade; interestingly the spiced vanilla foam carried an evident hint of vanilla that matched well with the zippiness of the lemonade — a refreshing drink from all of that heavy and pungent cheese in the cheesecakes that we went for. Queic by Olivia had gotten much serious hype only relatively recently despite being around for quite a while in the local F&B scene; a spot that has been serving up quality basque burnt cheesecake slices like no other, Queic by Olivia is one spot that we had been visiting and following for quite some time — definitely glad to see them being able to come this far into expanding this brand further with a second outlet located in the heart of town. We do think that they had still managed to maintain the quality of their offerings despite expanding their business, and while some of their creations such as the Valençay Cheesecake are a little bold, they still pretty much appeal to the avid cheese lover looking for something a little different from usual. The individually-sized cheesecake at Queic by Olivia doesn’t come cheap — priced at $15 a slice, these are definitely listed on the higher side of things, though the premium quality and the overall product does speak for itself. Still a spot that we would recommend cheesecake lovers to check out at least; an even especially so for those who appreciate heavy-tasting cheeses — definitely worth the experience for sure!
