There was this particular period of time where Min Jiang Kueh suddenly had its rising in the past couple of years; places that are serving up the dish having sprouted up all across the island. Mian Mian Bu Duan 绵绵不断 Peanut Pancake is one of such establishments that had opened during such a boom — having opened its doors some time back in 2021, we recalled the stall having commenced operations around the same time as another Min Jiang Kueh stall named Bu Bu Gao Sheng Pancake 步步高升 that had first started out in a coffeeshop at Neil Road. While Bu Bu Gao Sheng Pancake 步步高升 had since expanded its operations to a couple of outlets around the island, Mian Mian Bu Duan 绵绵不断 Peanut Pancake still operates from a single location — its original stall that is situated within Bukit Merah Central Food Centre that is at Blk 163 Bukit Merah Central. Mian Mian Bu Duan 绵绵不断 Peanut Pancake does serve up quite a simple selection of Min Jiang Kueh; they have pretty much stuck to serving up traditional flavours of Min Jiang Kueh here — no fancy batters for their Min Jiang Kueh, nor are there many varieties of fillings here. The flavours of the Min Jiang Kueh available at Mian Mian Bu Duan 绵绵不断 Peanut Pancake pretty much revolves around the usual — think Coconut, Red Bean, Peanut and Peanut Butter; there is also a choice of adding on Chocolate, while they also do have a Peanut Butter Jelly Min Jiang Kueh that was subsequently introduced later in its operations.
We actually made our visit to Mian Mian Bu Duan 绵绵不断 Peanut Pancake without planning for it — we recalled reading about them some time back when they had first opened; we also had previously wanted to make a visit back then but it quickly fell out of the radar soon afterwards. Skimming through the selection of Min Jiang Kueh available during our visit, we eventually went for the Red Bean — a standard flavour that we would go for apart from the Coconut variant since we aren’t supposed to have peanuts anyway. Whilst some places serve up their Min Jiang Kueh in a rectangular slab, Mian Mian Bu Duan 绵绵不断 Peanut Pancake serves up their version in a very neat square. Sinking our teeth into the Red Bean Pancake, the pancake itself pretty much delivers a texture that is described in the namesake of the stall — the pancake is soft, pillowy and fluffy (literally 绵绵), but it was dense enough to create a good chew that was especially springy; not exactly 不断 as mentioned in the namesake since it would be difficult to chew through if it is so, though definitely carried a good tension that created a good chew. We also got a bit of the ends of the pancakes with the portion they served us with — those ends being still crisp without being too stiff and limp being aired out in the display for too long. In between, the Min Jiang Kueh come spread with sufficient red bean paste; the red bean paste being smooth and not overly sweetened — carried a distinct earthiness typical of red beans as well. Overall, a pretty good rendition of Min Jiang Kueh that got the details nailed; all that whilst sticking to traditional without over-the-top pancake batter and flavours — definitely intrigued to give their Coconut version a go some day!
