The Polish version of donuts, Pączki(pronounced "Paunchki"), are deep fried pieces of especially rich dough made from eggs, fats, sugar, yeast and a minute amount of grain alcohol added before cooking which prevents the absorption of oil too deep into the dough. They are usually covered in powdered/icing sugar and/or bits of dried orange zest. Traditionally filled with plum or rose hip jam, other fillings typically include blueberry, apple, custard, bavarian cream, et cetera. I like the rose hip jam ones for their delicate flavour(pictured top left).
