If there is anything about it, one thing that had been long missed by some folks whom are into the local cafehopping scene is probably that of the Signature Mochi Donut with softserve that BrotherBird had used to serve up before they had scaled down their operations with the closure of BrotherBird Coffeehouse, which made them place more emphasis on BrotherBird’s offerings of the Mochi croissants instead. That being said, BrotherBird Bakehouse had since brought back the popular item back to their menu — the softserves and the mochi donut offerings had already made their return on the menu at BrotherBird Bakehouse; though albeit of a more scaled-down manner where the items are only available at their CIMB Plaza outlet for now. With the return of the mochi donut and softserve which was one of the more popular items that graced the menu at BrotherBird Coffeehouse, BrotherBird Bakehouse now serves up two (2) different flavours of softserves that can be opted for together with their mochi donut; there is also options for patrons to go solely for the mochi donut or the softserve as an ala-carte item if one wishes to do so as well.
Considering how the item had seemingly made its comeback onto the menu of BrotherBird Bakehouse, it is needless to say that we found ourselves opting for the Signature Mochi Donut with Pandan Coconut Softserve — the Signature Mochi Donut experience at BrotherBird would not have felt complete if one skips on the softserve here. BrotherBird Bakehouse describes their Signature Mochi Donut to come with caramel sauce and a “birdfood granola”; the Pandan Coconut Softserve on the meanwhile is described as a pandan infused coconut softserve. Whilst the Signature Mochi Donut with Pandan Coconut Softserve does sound like a dessert item that may potentially be quite sweet based on the composition of elements listed, we were glad that our fears were pretty much unfounded considering how they were rather easy with the caramel here — there is a light touch of sweetness from the caramel that went well with the nibs of granola that gave the mochi donut a textural contrast against the the denser and slightly chewy nature of the donut. The Pandan Coconut Softserve on the other hand had taken the direction of being more on the creamy and milky side of things; carried just a light whiff of Pandan fragrance for a bit of flavour — all smooth and rich at the same time. Glad to see the Signature Mochi Donut make a return to their menu considering how much of an icon the dish was during the heydays of cafe culture in Singapore, though also hoping that they are able to also serve the item at their other locations that might have considerably a larger crowd looking for a dessert-y treat!
