I'm not crazy about nasi lemak, chicken rice is more of my thing. I came home one evening, and there on the dining table were those in(sta)famous white and green boxes. Mum had gotten lil bro to buy the burgers for everyone, as she too wanted to try it. I chuckled to myself thinking, there's really no escaping this trend!

As I unwrapped the brown paper that's encasing the burger, I got hit with the familiar aroma of... nasi lemak! Reminds me so much of having nasi lemak bungkus on lazy sunday mornings. I cut the burger in half to share with my husband. So far, it looks and smells legit.

Finally, I took a bite and... liked it? Damn.

The chicken fillet was tender and had a surprising 'lemak' taste. The fried egg is great as a base to absorb the sweet and spicy sambal. Cucumber slices had gone soft from being mixed with sambal, so it didn't really do much in terms of freshness or crunch factor. But you can't go wrong with having caramelised onions. Put it on ice-cream and it will still taste good (just kidding!!! Or am I...)

I enjoyed my half of the burger and contemplated taking another, but decided to leave it while I still had a good impression.

It's fascinating how this burger launch has turned into a national event. It's as though McDonald's had an Open Mobilisation Exercise, with the code words 'Nasi Lemak Burger' and the nation responded swiftly. Is this your most successful promo item launch ever, McD? Kudos for putting the spotlight on a beloved local dish.

Also, thanks in advance for the return of samurai burger and seaweed shaker fries. Heehee kthxbye.
