McDonald’s may be the establishment that most would pay more attention to for their limited time-only hand pies; that being said Burger King always do have quite an interesting range of pies as well whenever they roll out one that is tuned towards the occasion where their limited time-only specials are themed after. Probably a little late to the game considering how National Day has come and gone, but Burger King’s National Day themed menu is still currently on-going at the time of writing this post; this menu features the Rendang burgers, as well as Fried Cempedak Mochi Balls, a series of Milo-based desserts and the Kaya Pandan Pie amongst a few others.

More people have been talking about the Cocoa-Nut Pie from the Golden Arches — one that we have had on multiple occasions but weren’t too impressed about; we are actually surprised that the Pandan Kaya Pie was one that is rarely mentioned even during the peak or the National Day season. Apart from the usual crispy pie pastry that Burger King’s pies come with (some outlets do achieve a slightly different consistency than the rest; at least something we learnt about from other previous limited time-only pies we had tried), the Pandan Kaya Pie features a really rich and thick Pandan Kaya filling that generously fills up the entire hand pie within. Whilst we were expecting a rather coarse and lumpy texture initially since that is the sort of commercially-made Pandan Kaya we are used to having from jars retailed in the supermarket, we really like how luscious and smooth the Pandan Kaya filling for the Pandan Kaya Pie was — all that with an evident note of Pandan whilst at it. We did find that the Pandan Kaya filling did end up on the sweeter side for us, but this is probably one of our favourite hand pies that we had come across thus far from Burger King; so much we actually have had two of them in the same week. Something that Kaya lovers should most definitely try before it gets rotated out of the menu!
