It's been several years since I first sunk my teeth into that light, pillowy @richandgoodcakeshop Kaya Roll Cake ๐๐ฐ, and I clearly remember that rush of joy as the comforting creaminess of Kaya ๐ and Coconut๐ด๐ฅฅ awakened my tastebuds.
Fast forward to 2020, where they have now expanded, and I finally got my hands on some of these old school roll cakes in a long while (mostly due to the OOS situation at their various outlets). ๐
Unfortunately, the Kaya roll wasn't outstandingly delicious as I remembered ๐, and definitely wasn't of the same standard from years ago when I once proudly proclaimed, "๐๐๐๐ & ๐๐ค๐ค๐ ๐๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ค๐ก๐ก๐จ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐ฝ๐๐๐ ๐'๐ซ๐ ๐๐ซ๐๐ง ๐๐๐!!!๐" I mean, they were delicious. But they had somehow lost that signature light texture and comforting flavours that I had once fallen in love with...I suspect that the ratio of Kaya custard has decreased in recent years... Or was it my tastebuds that have changed? ๐คท๐ปโโ๏ธ
Surprisingly, I enjoyed the durian roll cake more this time, and even though the amount of durian pulp isn't exactly generous, it made a wonderful tea-time snack washed down with a cup of tea. ๐ต Would I eat these cakes again? ๐๐๐!!!๐ But I definitely wouldn't make my way down specially to queue for them... ๐
