Wo Lai Ye, which is now occupying the space that the now disgraced Grazie once occupied in Serangoon Gardens Food Centre, serves up one of my favorite foods: soya sauce chicken.

I’ve cut my teeth on some of the best soya sauce chickens in Singapore, and it’s quite a high compliment when I say that Wo Lai Ye isn’t far behind them. Thin, tantalizing brown porcelain skin covers each cut of chicken and adds that fatty satisfaction into each and every bite into the bird.

The meat itself is full of fantastic flavors, and Wo Lai Ye decides against taking shortcuts and have painstakingly boiled the essence of their lor (sauce) into each and every chicken. As a result, the deliciousness of the meat reflects that reality. The meat is tender, moist and supremely savory, and each bite is a joy to undertake.

Granted, the chicken could’ve been cooked for about a minute or two less, but as it stands, Wo Lai Ye can easily stand against the juggernauts of juicy soya sauce chicken in Singapore.
