Creme Brulee with black sesame gelato @ Dolce Tokyo - bugis mall
Peculiar combination but nothing unbearable. The Creme Brulee itself is really good! The torched surgery surface is perfection, like beautiful tinted glass atop the lovely custard layer. The vanilla flavoured custard is luscious and creamy yet neither eggy nor "pudding-y". Could have had it on its own really. The crunchy caramelised top with the soft almost molten interior is a classic genius of a combination
Imo the blueberries, marshmallows and sesame ice cream were more distracting than complimentary. I chose black sesame for its strong toasty flavour as I thought it would counter the creamy taste if the custard so the dish would be too gelad. Turned out that worked too well. Eat eat component alone and they are fab but together, thru kinda neutralised each other out. Losing both the mellow custardy taste and the strong toasty sesame taste. On a side note the black sesame ice cream was rad. Its really true to its flavour! The only complaint is that it's a little too "icy" for a gelato. Would be nice if it was a tad creamier. Appreciated the toasted marshmallows but they could have been given more of a roast so that they are gooey on the inside and not just superficially burnt out the outside 😐
Perhaps vanilla flavoured gelato would still be the best cliché flavour to compliment this dish.
