Got our hands on the Hojicha (premium) and Peach Soju (super premium) gelato before our sushi round! Hojicha was good while the Peach Soju would be better with stronger soju. It’s a decent cone of gelato, but perhaps not something I would go out of my way for.

With more than 30 flavours, Massimo's gelatos are freshly churned in house. My choice of Wild Berries Cheesecake, Mango and Pomegranate came with chunks of fruits within. Shoutout to their matcha gelato, which I had for dinner the next day. It was the best gelato considering the price - $2 for 2 scoops + cone.

One of them is this pappardelle with porcini mushroom and asparagus. Topped with generous amount of asparagus and mushroom, it was simple yet pretty delish.

Surprisingly pretty good, especially the caramel one. Sweet on the first bite, but it ended with a spicy kick on your taste buds. Only available in the month of August, so try it out while it lasts!

The tuna was fresh, but the star was definitely the umami dressing. We poured the sauce into our rice and even dipped our yakitori into the sauce 🤦🏻‍♀️

The 7-pcs platter came with shiitake, shishito pepper, tsukune, chicken thighs, chicken wings, pork and bacon asparagus. The pork was tough to chew — were they really Iberico black pork collar, as what the menu says? My favourite of all was the tsukune (chicken meatballs). The rest was mediocre at best, and all the meat were a tad cold as well. Given the 4.4* on Google reviews and positive things on Burpple, I was expecting more.

My only gripe was the lumpy and a-tad-too-sour rice, but I found the fish cuts were decent. Of course they lacked the savoury marination like Teppei's or Sushiro's but overall, they were fresh. I still prefer Sushiro's rendition for $12.80 bara chirashi, but if I don't mind coming back here when I'm in the area (and too broke to eat at Nobuya).

If you find Nobu-ya too adventurous with its raw dishes or too demanding with its drinking policy, Motsu-ya might be a good alternative. Serving mostly beef and chicken, the joint serves comforting homely dishes like chicken offals stew and beef hotpot. I will still choose Nobuya over this, but if I’m looking for a hangover kind of food, this will be the first on my mind. *

The hojicha was my favourite - thick, creamy with a pretty strong roasted tea flavour. The grape yakult was too icy for my liking but it was super refreshing. Not really into the lychee ‘cos I found it a tad too sweet, but it’s just a matter of preference.

The umami broth was not overly garlicky but still held enough flavours from the sweet clams and Chinese parsley. I'm still not used to the idea of DIY for pasta, but this pasta surprised me in a good way!

My craving for seafood was pretty much sorted. They even have raclette cheese station now for you to add to anything on your plate. But the highlight of the night was definitely the dessert selections — from trifle and chocolate lava cake to bread pudding and raspberry tarts. Spoiled for choices indeed!
