After eyeing on this shop since it opened last year, I finally made it here.

I had a Tempura Kake Soba (a slight change from the pre-set menu) because I was craving for something hot and soupy, and yes, it didn't disappoint.
Using a mixture of buckwheat flour imported from Yamanashi, Tochigi and Hokkaido, the soba here is made daily at the shop. It had a good texture, though I would have preferred a slightly (even) firmer bite, and it was surprisingly light on the palate. The Kansai-style MSG-free dashi broth was also another highlight of the dish with its smooth yet bold flavour. There were also some orange peels on top that gave a good refreshing addition to the broth.
The tempura itself was pretty good with my favourite being the juicy chicken and pumpkin. I found the oyster mushroom tempura to be rather "annoying" for it was quite difficult to find the right way to bite it. But aside of that trivial complaint of mine, the tempura was enjoyable with very very little trace of oil and I really enjoyed dipping the tempura into the dashi broth as well.
I would definitely love to try their other dishes here and I think, they have set quite a high standard for other soba shops in town.

So I have been frequenting this coffeeshop almost every week for the past 10 weeks and safe to say, their fishball noodle/kway teow is still my favourite.

Only at this shop will I order a bowl of kway teow instead of my usual mee pok and they definitely know how to get their kway teow texture right. Mix well and let every strand of kway teow be evenly coated with chilli and lard; it would be gone within minutes.

Though a tad too salty, I can't resist having vegemite on my toast, especially when it's thickly covered in melted cheese.

I also asked them to replace the soft-boiled egg with scrambled egg to perfect my breakfast! No more privilege of waking up late for weekday brunch this semester but it's alright; I just can't wait for summer to arrive (:

I'm never a fan of chiffon or sponge cake, but found myself deeply in love with the soft buttery texture and the bold tape flavour that I couldn't stop munching it throughout the day. Do check out their instagram for more info about placing your orders!

I haven't really tried enough canelés in my life, but this was a pretty decent one.

The exterior was a tad tough, but that aside, the framboise filling was refreshing with bold tartness from the raspberry. A good change from the typical cafe dessert in Singapore.

Incorporating a Chinese element into the dish, the hua tiao vongole has a nice ginger-ish sweet broth with a generous serving of lala clams.

This would be great in the cloudy/rainy season like now 😋

Queued 20 minutes for this, and I found it pretty satisfying!

It was a one-man show for the uncle as he managed everything from taking order, cashier-ing to whipping up this bowl of noodle amidst the snaking queue outside his stall. What I love the most were the teochew-style dumplings and meatballs while I found the noodle to be a tad too soft for my liking. I was also surprised to see a shrimp on my noodle (not too sure if it's a teochew style kinda thing). Do note that the noodle portion might be rather small (especially for guys) so get a medium-sized bowl since you'll get hungrier after queueing. Definitely will be back here if I'm not in a rush for work 😛

Finally, we managed to meet up for the long-awaited meal!

The broth was super tasty thanks to the generous ingredients the uncle gave us: lala clams, crab, prawns, pork ribs, and pig intestines (it originally comes with pigs' tails and skin too, but we decided to opt out of them). The hotpot also comes with unlimited bowls of noodle with super shiok chilli and pieces of lard.

Yoshinoya @ Junction 8 has revamped their menu (and shop layout!) by adding rice bowls and ramen to cater more to non-beef eaters.

My personal favourite is their Tori Katsu Don with Tonkatsu sauce, which comes with 2 pieces of tamago (egg), asparagus, mushroom and pumpkin. The chicken katsu was nicely deep-fried without being too oily, and went pretty well with the tonkatsu sauce.
You can also top up for $1.50 to get unlimited soft drinks from the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine — with more than 50 combinations of drinks and flavours (think of coke raspberry, ginger ale lemon, sprite fruit punch, etc).

Each strand of the linguine was evenly coated in creamy brown butter sauce, and the generous serving of mushroom added a much-needed earthiness to the palate.

I loved the subtle hint of ginger, which elevated the otherwise one-dimensional miso flavour. Simple yet surprisingly tasty, this is definitely my to-go dish if I'm back here again.

So sad that there will be no more this softserve combination 'till next December 2017.

Instead of the dual swirl, we got ourselves half kuri (chestnut) and hal matcha softserve. I really enjoyed the nutty slightly sweet marron chestnut flavour — a perfect pairing to the bitter matcha. The rum-soaked chestnut chunks served as a good constrast in texture to the chestnut puree and @matchayasg's typical butter biscuit.
But I'm excited to wait for their next creative invention!

So happy to discover this underrated stall at Soy Eu Tua Coffeeshop (Jalan Tua Kong), selling prawn mee, laksa and lor mee.

I know my friend loves the lor mee here so much so that he ordered 2 bowls all for himself, but I decided to try the prawn mee. Ordering the dry version with extra chilli, I poured 1/3 of the lip-smacking peppery prawn stock into the noodle — my old habit to get the best of both worlds: the chilli and prawn stock. The result was super tasty and comforting! I immediately fell in love with its qq noodle and fiery chilli. I can foresee this as my comfort food for the next 10 weeks.
