Cafe Hopping SG - Central
Refreshing, zesty and smooth lemon curd encased in a tart base (which I found a tad too thick and hard -- I like it more crumbly, personal preference) atop a layer of olive oil sponge and finished with torched sweet meringue and lemon peel.
My first impression was "what the shit, did I just pay $12 to eat nothing?!?!" Just like the decorative silverish chocolate feather sitting atop the dainty white dome -- the cheese mousse was super light and airy with a citron jelly centre, and a butter sable base. The flavor and texture of the entire cake was skillfully and delightfully well balanced 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻 just shut up and take all my money 👐🏻👐🏻👐🏻👐🏻
Layers of Hazelnut Ganache, Coffee Sponge and Chocolate Ganache. A tad more on the sweeter side but it was still enjoyable.
Dark Chocolate Mousse, Chocolate Meringue and Chocolate Hazelnut Praline Crunch encased in a high gloss dome. Good texture -- the mousse was very smooth and light accompanied with a little crunch, good mix of rich dark chocolate and sweet meringue. Definitely hit all the right notes of a g spot for chocolate enthusiasts like me.
Canele, Almond financier and Apricot, nut and cinnamon loaf - best toasted and paired with a generous slab of butter.
And a vampire minion hot chocolate 🤗🤗🤗🤗
It's the Halloween period so here's a pumpkin designed iced latte
They have cakes and pastries (outsourced) -- we tried the lemon meringue tart, rainbow cake, chocolate truffled cake and macarons. They were all very decent (fresh cakes and cake density the way I like it -- not dense at all). The place is suitable for gatherings (big, small, family and friends). Their food may not be outstanding (usual cafe fare) but it's not overpriced and presentation is good (very good effort in fact). Ambience is perfect, can probably catch up with an old friend over tea or spend a quiet afternoon with yourself like reading a book etc
Their drinks menu is just woooah, they've milkshakes/smoothies at $9, soft drinks/sodas, juice, teas (from TWG at $8.80), iced flavored teas, hot chocolates (hazelnut, mint, baileys), flavored coffee frappes and of course regular flat whites, lattes and mochas and of course flavored ones like tiramisu latte, rose latte, macadamia latte, baileys latte, minty mocha latte (iced or hot, whatever you like, you name it, they will probably serve it, there has gotta be a drink that you want) BUT THE BEST PART HAS GOT TO BE THE 3D LATTE ART (additional $1). You can try to request your fave characters to be drawn and talented serene will try her best to draw it for you!
Hmm, Kirin beer? Nope, not from can nor bottled, it's FROZEN and it has interesting flavors like calpis, mango, orange and cranberry.... Worth a try. I haven't heard of something like this before 🙊🙊🙈🙉
Don't we all have a weakness for fluffy pancakes? All the more when it's so pretty. 😍😍 This place is so kids and family friendly! Okay I digressed. Double stacked pancakes with strawberries covered in their homemade fluff sauce (taste like melted gooey marshmallows, Mmhmm) and finished with two macarons. It's quite heavy for dessert and could be eaten as a main (for me, absolute sweet tooth, but I do recommend to share it) and it's good on its own -- there's no need for maple or honey syrup. Kids will scream for more 😂😂 You can thank me later.
Chocolate and berry mousse, ganache and crumble encased in chocolate sphere and melted with their warm homemade chocolate sauce. Sounds cloying sweet huh? In an attempt to prevent it from tasting too diabetic, they added in some salt 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻 so not to worry everything is well balanced. Good for sharing as chocolate can get a little heavier when you're halfway through. Price is friendlier as well compared to Henri Charpentier's chocolate dome which is almost twice the price 😂😂 and it doesn't have any alcohol taste at all (I'm not an alcohol person)
