Yong Tau Fu

Never ending long queue over at Poy Kee YTF. Situated within People's Park Complex, it is probably one of the most popular stores, helming a long queue at 1130am, way before lunch hour. While you are unable to choose the ingredients (yes, it's Hakka style), be rest assured that every ingredient they serve comes with the freshest fish paste! Burpple Tastemaker Julius Lim and I both thought that the tofu was the winner! In fact, we were thinking of ordering just the tofu the next round. And do not miss out on the perfect mee pok that came with the most badass chilli sauce.

Koo Kee is a familiar name for Hakka YTF enthusiasts for its accessibility and affordability. Personally, I enjoy it for its ba chor mee-ish noodles as well as fresh YTF ingredients. Best of all, it's current value deal gives you a serving of Kang kong on the side, all at $4.50.

I know it's difficult to believe that one YTF can taste better than another. Afterall it's pretty much the same ingredients, blanched in water and topped with similar tasting gravy. But this store at Bedok Interchange 青天 have officially stole the title of the most value for money YTF for 2 very simple reasons, freshness of ingredients and the great tasting soup. The selection of ingredients weren't the widest, each selection is definitely fresh and flavourful. The store also boasts to boil their soup with corn, chicken bones and soy and you can taste the yummy flavours in every spoonful you take.

Decided to try 百年 and boy, it was so good! A sweet meaty broth with generous servings of meat chunks, fresh prawn chunks and all sorts of ingredients wrapped in beancurd skin. Priced at $4/bowl, this bowl of YTF nothing short of deeply satisfying.

To be honest I wouldn't have stepped foot in this store if not because a friend told me it was good. Personally I found the Yong Tau Fu to be fresh and it's filling to be fragrant. Unlike normal YTF which are filled with fish paste, the ones here seem to be filled with meat paste. Handmade everyday to ensure the freshest quality. Oh, don't forget to have them with the yummy Chilli paste.
